GREAT NEWS - (SWIPE) Alaska’s Controversial Pebble Mine Fails to Win Critical Permit, Likely Killing It.

Happy Happy Thanksgiving to all Americans ...

The New York Times reported yesterday Wednesday November 25th that “The immense project would have been one of the world’s largest gold and copper mines, but regulators found it “contrary to the public interest” due to environmental risks in the pristine Alaskan tundra.

85 -90% of the red-tailed hawk’s diet is composed of small rodents. It is a bird of prey or Raptor - a carnivore - medium to large sized bird (including eagle, owl, or vulture) that has a hooked beak and large sharp talons and that feeds wholly or chiefly on meat by hunting or carrion.

JAGUARS FACE GROWING THREATS & Growing Human Animal Conflicts - Deforestation rates are high in South America, both for logging and to clear space for cattle ranching. This results in many new threats to jaguars, from the loss of their home to isolating their populations, making breeding harder. Less habitat also means jaguars’ prey is reduced - over a quarter of their range is thought to have depleted numbers of wild prey. This leads them to hunt livestock and be killed by people. They’re also vulnerable to poaching (trophy hunters - especially in the US) despite this being illegal. Jaguar paws, teeth and other parts are still sought after, mostly for TCM (Chinese Traditional Medicine) and ornaments.

Conservation action has prevented at least 28 extinctions since 1993 according to
“A new study shows just how effectively conservation action slows extinction rates, calculating that at least 28 bird and mammal species would have been lost since 1993 without intervention. The message is clear – with enough support, we can halt the extinction crisis.

In a news cycle full of doom and despair, it’s extremely uplifting to see proof that the hard work of conservationists has a tangible impact. Knowing how and when conservation succeeds is the roadmap we so desperately need to guide us through the coming years. This month, a study led by Newcastle University and BirdLife International estimates the number of bird and mammal species that would have disappeared forever without conservation action in recent decades.”

As we approach the Holiday Season ... PLEASE JOIN ME TO SUPPORT Symbolically Tiger Adoptions. WORLD WILDLIFE FUND (WWF) adoptions are a figurative way PEOPLE CAN adopt an endangered species - and in so doing help WWF to FUND an ongoing conservation project TO PROTECT SUCH SPECIES.

We have lost over 95% of the world’s wild tiger population - mainly owing to increased poaching & habitat loss (human population & development pressures). There are only around 3,700 wild tigers left in the world. Help Protect Vulnerable Wildlife & their Habitats. Symbolically Adopt A Tiger Today!

This year has been an unprecedentedly challenging one for so many on earth. It’s been tough to find a smile or two even when unmasked. So I hope seeing my photo of this adorable Black Capped Chickadee would bring a smile or two.

According to the Audubon Society “When you see a chickadee, it is symbolic of a cheerful nature, social behavior, courage, positivity, and flexibility & if you have a chickadee as your animal totem, it means that you are surrounded by people who will love you.”

(SWIPE TO SEE TAKE-OFF SEQUENCE) ... Ospreys are found near bodies of water: saltmarshes, rivers, ponds, reservoirs, estuaries, and even coral reefs. Their conspicuous stick nests are placed in the open on poles, channel markers, and dead trees, often over water.

In early July 2020 the Trump administration halted a three-decade push to restore grizzly bear populations in the recovery ecosystems. So far, North America’s Lower 48 States have lost 97% of its Grizzly Bear Populations in just 2 Centuries - from 50,000 to Only around 1,500 grizzlies remain today in the Lower 48 States.

End Canada’s role in the cruel elephant ivory trade. Every year, at least 20,000 African elephants are poached for their ivory. Often, they die in agony after being poisoned, shot or otherwise beaten. Their tusks are hacked off and sold for profit, often through international crime syndicates. Shockingly, the elephant ivory trade — including the import of elephant ivory from cruel trophy hunts — is still legal in Canada. As a nation that positions itself as a global leader in conservation, Canada has an important opportunity to act now to conserve elephants, help African nations protect biodiversity and end its support of cruel and criminal practices.

The African Elephant Coalition has called on the world community to ban the elephant ivory trade. Canada’s top trading partners, including the United States, China and the United Kingdom have adopted restrictions in their domestic ivory trade. Canada should do the same.

Please urge the Canadian government to end the elephant ivory trade in Canada. Go to my Profile/Website to add your voice and sign the Petition with the Humane Society
