We are thrilled to welcome filmmaker Merawi Gerima () to the family! Merawi’s work focuses on going outside the boundaries of creative conventions to discover and cultivate authentic stories. Born and raised in Washington DC, Gerima’s origin informs his work and his community-centered orientation, as seen in his debut feature RESIDUE, which won the 2020 Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature.

has named filmmaker Merawi Gerima’s debut feature, RESIDUE, as one of “The 50 Best Movies on Netflix US] Right Now”

Written & directed by , RESIDUE follows aspiring filmmaker Jay (.nwachukwu) returning to his childhood Washington, DC, neighborhood that has been gentrified beyond recognition. Dealing with alienation from his friends, troubled by the disappearance of his best friend, and unsure of his place in this new community, Jay confronts issues of identity, gentrification and loss.

Filmmaker Ramin Bahrani’s latest film, 2ND CHANCE, which premiered at this year’s will have a selected theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles beginning December 2, before it streams on next spring.

The feature-length documentary tells the story of Richard Davis, the charming yet brash inventor of the modern-day bulletproof vest who shot himself 192 times to prove his product worked. His tale is an American story of guns, violence, lies and self-deception, as Davis saved thousands of lives while endangering exponentially more.
