I almost kept driving.
Rolling through the West Side of Chicago, I spotted a group of Ruff Ryders hanging out after what looked like a meetup. I drove past, but something told me to turn around.
PJ was with me. When I got out to ask a group of strangers if I could photograph them, he wanted to disappear into his seat.
I walked over, introduced myself and asked. They said yes.
Once he saw us connecting and making photographs, I could tell he was a little impressed. He probably won’t admit that part.
But he got to see something that’s carried me through my entire career. When I see something that moves me, I have to act on it. Walk over. Start the conversation. See where it goes.
Thank you to everyone who welcomed me and gave me a few minutes of their day.
The moment only lasts for a second. Sometimes the difference between the photograph you made and the one you wish you had is turning the car around.
