Though I often walked across this bridge, this seems to be the only shot I took.

Back then, the towers were still largely unfilled and often derided.

I remember one local congressman suggesting they be turned into a Red Light District at night to fill the space. This, I later learned, was what that part of Manhattan was known for in the early days of NYC's history.

Demolition of this building, once home to a magnificent 1,700-seat live theater, halted when the developer ran out of money, leaving the façade and the wall facing 96th Street still standing, unsupported by the rest of the block-sized structure.

A few weeks later, the south wall collapsed in the middle of the night, crushing the line of cars parked alongside it and injuring two people hit by flying bricks.

Now, this block is very upscale, but back then it was one of the rougher parts of Manhattan.
