Wavertree is a historic iron-hulled sailing ship built in Southampton, England in 1885. Wavertree was one of the last large sailing ships built of wrought iron. She was built for the Liverpool company R.W. Leyland & Company, and is named after the Wavertree district of that city. he ship was first used to carry jute between eastern India and Scotland. When less than two years old the ship entered the "tramp trades", taking cargoes anywhere in the world. In 1910, after sailing for a quarter century, the ship was dis-masted off Cape Horn and barely made it to the Falkland Islands. Rather than re-rigging the ship its owners sold it for use as a floating warehouse at Punta Arenas, Chile. Wavertree was converted into a sand barge at Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1947. This ship was discovered in 1967 at the Riachuelo River in Buenos Aires by an American citizen working on a sand barge and acquired by the South Street Seaport Museum in 1968. The ship was sent to the Arsenal Naval Buenos Aires for restoration. In 1969 after restoration was complete, the ship was towed to New York. The vessel was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 13, 1978.

In 2015, the ship was sent to Staten Island's Caddell Dry Dock and Repair Co. Inc. for a $13 million restoration, funded by New York City's Department of Cultural Affairs, city council and Manhattan's borough president. The restoration included the replacement of steel plates below the waterline, a new ballast system, updated electrical systems, and coating work that includes a cathodic protection system. The restoration started in May 2015, and ended on 25 September 2016, when the ship returned to South Street Seaport museum. ~Wikipedia

5 in 1 is a 35-foot-tall (11 m), 75,000-pound (34,000 kg) painted CorTen steel sculpture by Tony Rosenthal, installed at 1 Police Plaza in Lower Manhattan, New York. Commissioned by the government of New York City in 1971 at a cost of $80,000, it was created between 1973 and 1974, and installed on the brick paved pedestrian mall of 1 Police Plaza.

Rosenthal titled "5 in 1" as a metaphor for each of New York City's five boroughs: the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. He created the 35-by-28-by-42-foot (10.7 m × 8.5 m × 12.8 m) sculpture with five interlocking discs representing each of the boroughs. Each of the five interlocking discs weighs 15,000 pounds (6,800 kg). At the time of its installation in 1974, "5 in 1" was the largest metal public art sculpture installed in New York City. ~Wikipedia

Like tropical hibiscus, the Rose Mallow boasts huge, vibrantly colored flowers, some growing to the size of dinner plates. But once your hardy hibiscus bursts into bloom, it will continue flowering until the first frost and then return again in spring for a repeat performance. Despite its tolerance for cold weather, rose mallow also loves the heat and grows equally well in balmy southern climates. ~https://www.gardendesign.com/shrubs/rose-mallow.html

This piece by Pau Quintanajornet called Yemaya and Her Seabirds was installed at the Historic Casino Building in 2019 as part of the Wooden Walls Project.

The historic Carousel Building is a 5,000 square foot, three-quarter ornate copper clad rotunda that is a landmark along the waterfront and now home to the Wooden Walls Project, a non-profit art initiative based in Asbury Park, NJ. The Carousel section is part of the Casino Building, a striking 1929 beaux arts structure designed by architect Whitney Warren and partner Charles Wetmore (designers of Grand Central Terminal in New York).

The famed carousel was bought in 1990 and moved to Family Kingdom Park in Myrtle Beach, S.C., where it now operates with fiberglass replicas of the original wooden horses. Though stripped of their original glory, the shore town's structures are still standing as the town mounts a comeback.

The Carousel House, which was recently renovated with new glass, iron gates, and a new roof and cupola, now occasionally serves as a host to local theater groups and bands. To continue Asbury Park’s rich skateboarding history, Red Bull and waterfront developer Madison Marquette have installed a 3½-foot mini bowl and skate park within the carousel, named Forth Union. ~https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/asbury-park-casino-carousel-house

As in traditional town plans in Italy, Father Demo Square is a piazza - an open space surrounded by buildings and a gathering place for its community. The popular West Village square is named for Father Antonio Demo, who was appointed the pastor of the nearby Our Lady of Pompeii church in 1900 and served the community for more than 30 years. The church still stands at the square's northwest corner, providing an elegant backdrop for the park and its central fountain. ~https://www.nycgovparks.org/parks/father-demo-square

Young sunflowers orient themselves in the direction of the sun. At dawn the head of the flower faces east and moves west throughout the day. Young flowers reorient overnight to face east in anticipation of the morning. Their heliotropic motion is a circadian rhythm, synchronized by the sun, which continues if the sun disappears on cloudy days or if plants are moved to constant light. They are able to regulate their circadian rhythm in response to the blue-light emitted by a light source. If a sunflower plant in the bud stage is rotated 180°, the bud will be turning away from the sun for a few days, as resynchronization with the sun takes time. When growth of the flower stalk stops and the flower is mature, the heliotropism also stops and the flower faces east from that moment onward. ~Wikipedia

The Pepsi-Cola sign is a neon sign at Gantry Plaza State Park in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens in New York City. The sign, visible from Manhattan and the East River, was built in 1940 and originally installed atop PepsiCo (previously Pepsi-Cola)'s bottling factory nearby. It is composed of a 50-foot depiction of a Pepsi bottle, as well as lettering that reflected PepsiCo's logo when the sign was commissioned.

The Pepsi-Cola sign was likely manufactured by the General Outdoor Advertising Company and was New York state's longest electric sign when completed. The bottle depiction was replaced in the 1970s, and Artkraft Strauss Sign Corporation rebuilt the rundown sign in 1993. When the Pepsi facility was closed in 2003, the sign was relocated to the park. The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission began holding hearings on whether to make the sign a city landmark in 1988, though it was not designated as such until 2016. ~ Wikipedia
