Celebrating by debuting BBA’S SELF-DEFINING, WORLD-WEAVING TENETS OF EMPOWERMENT. AKA… My manifesto!
I’m asked all the time, “Why bo***ir”? Great Q, and while maybe the answer “because I love it” might suffice, I wanted to sit with it. For real, like… Why bo***ir? ✨Crosses legs, lights a candle, massages third eye✨: What is my intention with my photography, my business, and the impact I want to have on my clients? What mark am I trying to leave?
So I wrote a manifesto. I know, how Karl Marx of me. I poured over each tenet as I really FELT into the artist I want to be, the people I want to serve, and the world I want to make. This is Bo***ir by Afton Utopia, baby. Each tenet comes from the marrow of my bones. It’s my point of view on the world. And it’s why I shoot bo***ir.
On the walk to defining my POV in manifesto form, a sweet accident stuck to the bottom of my shoe. Not once, in any of the drafts, did I use the word “empowerment”. This was not intentional - I wasn’t consciously avoiding the word. In truth, I have always felt the word to be so 🤢🤷♀️🙃😬 empty? Blech-y? Silly? No tea no shade, but one will see no shortage of the word “empowering” on any given bo***ir website and I’ve always scratched my head over what anyone meant by it. What does it even mean?! Empower who? And how? And why? It had always felt like a word salad platitude to me, even when I’d force myself to use it, so I’d just leave it in the drafts collecting dust…
…until I wrote this baby. Nearing its completion, an epiphany bopped me on the head. In the last editing stage, I sat back, eyes wide, pearls clutched- realizing THIS (points aggressively to manifesto) is what “empowerment” means to me. THIS is how I empower myself, my clients, and all women and femmes present and future. THIS is how I DEFINE empowerment! Holy s**t!! I could kiss myself on the mouth.
So here you have it, hotties. My world-weaving, self-defining tenets of (wait for it)… EMPOWERMENT 👊💥
