As someone who’s ocean-obsessed, I was in love with this baby’s room—the sweetest ocean theme and big plush sea animals tucked into the crib. It felt so personal to their story and that’s exactly what I love about at-home newborn sessions. Nothing rushed, nothing forced, just documenting parenthood in a way that feels true to your family. The quiet snuggles, the soft details, the love that fills up the room.

This little series ended up being my favorite from the session. I had envisioned this shot before the shoot, and right as we were about to transition into the water for the underwater portion, I remembered it. We pivoted, snapped a few, and I’m so glad we did.

It’s harder than it looks with the sun blasting in your eyes, and once your ears are under the surface, you can’t hear a thing. Little lessons you only learn through experience.

There’s something so calming about photographing motherhood in the water. I love documenting maternity in such an honest, quiet way. So excited for this mama and her journey into motherhood.

As soon as I entered the water, this guy swam right into me and then continued along with the current. I hadn’t even had a chance to adjust my camera settings yet, but didn’t want to pass up the opportunity, so this is what I got. It started out as a severely underexposed image, but thankfully I was able to save the file. I haven’t had as many opportunities to shoot underwater since moving to the east coast. The ocean clarity is non-existent and the springs often reach capacity during summer by the early morning hours. I miss diving. I miss underwater portraits. I miss experiencing wildlife beneath the surface, so this was a special experience.

You probably can’t see it from an online view, but if you zoom in you can see his thick, bristly hairs sticking up on top. These gentle giants are basically slow-moving rocks drifting through the natural, fresh water springs.

Lately, photographing first-time mothers has felt even more meaningful.

Maybe it’s because I’m right there, too — navigating the unknown, learning to slow down, feeling all the shifts as I prepare for my own little one.

Documenting this season for someone else while quietly moving through it myself is something I’ll never take for granted. There’s a quiet kind of magic in these sessions, especially when the light is soft, the air is calm, and the moment feels grounded.

A quiet morning, just as it was meant to be. The haze softened the sky, turning the ocean a muted shade of blue, the kind that only appears when the world is still waking up. They walked hand in hand through a forest of green, kissed barefoot in the sand, and watched a sailboat drift by, slow and steady. Had the sun been brighter, the colors might have been different, the beach more crowded, the energy altered—but this? This was perfect.
