Why I love wedding photography: Part 2

Weddings are a tremendous emotional experience. Getting to witness that, and be part of it, every single week, has become a rhythm I’ve grown to crave. I almost love being at the wedding more than I love the photography itself.

Yesterday I talked about the craft. I love that too. But this is about the rest. Being fully present, in the moment, with the people I’m there for.

Why do I love wedding photography? Because no other genre asks you to be five different photographers before dinner is served. From still life to editorials to catching candids, it’s like every discipline of photography that exists, all in one day. It really stimulates my brain and I love it.

Having a friend or family member officiate your ceremony is meaningful. But if they’re a beginner officiant, here’s one tip: tell them to add “please be seated” to their script.

Guests are polite. They wait to be told to sit. If no one says it, they’ll stand the whole time, and no one behind them can see.
