It’s fall, but I was looking back at summer, while thinking about fall, and also daydreaming about Christmas. Clearly time is just going too fast! Photos with this sweet family from the “classic summer” mini archives ☀️

While I don’t photograph for social media, likes, or accolades, being featured in Heartful Magazine’s fall issue feels like a sweet hug. It’s an honor and inspiration to be featured next to talented family photographers from around the world and in a collection of imagery that celebrates honest stories. “Photos with a heartbeat.” To know my image was selected among ten thousand images left me a bit shocked to be honest, and I’m extremely grateful to be a small part. I am always craving to photograph family stories with intention and soul, and I’m thankful to be part of a publication that celebrates that!

Surprisingly, this was my first time submitting my work to a publication officially, so I hope that this inspires you to take a step maybe you’ve been afraid to take too!

You can get the magazine by commenting FALL26 on any of Heartful Magazine posts, or through the link in Heartful Magazine stories/profile 🤍

I work from the notion that marvelous moments are often found in mundane moments. That ordinary really is a gift.

The more it’s practiced, the easier it is to see— Those little happenings around us each day that when paid attention to, cause us to wonder. I used to feel silly about finding so many little moments of whimsy or joy. Of pausing to look, of being a more quiet human. But in that I learned to listen and see, that small things often have great weight.

May you find a small thing today that gives you pause, makes you wonder, and keeps you kind.

And a note as a photographer. I want your photos to be beautiful, but more importantly I want them to be genuine, and real. To have feeling! To be the reminders in your life now and ten years from now that your ordinary is beautiful too.

What’s something ordinary that you have appreciated lately?

The gift of being really present. I see it a lot in my work. I love that so much.

But often here on social media, in the tailspin of over consumption, and comparison, the gift of really being present is easily missed it seems.

I’m guilty of it for sure! It’s a common reason I take long breaks from posting all the beautiful work I get to do, to find respite from this online cycle.

And, as a mom, sometimes really being present feels second fiddle when you’re trying to navigate the day the best you can with love and in chaos (ha!)

I have felt the ever growing longing to really exist in my own moments too. I do so well truly being present in other people’s moments as my job, that sometimes, somehow… I can more easily forget to really be present and stop hurrying along in my own moments. I’m sure I’m not alone here 🤍

It is such a worthwhile effort to remember how rare this all is.

And working at this has created a measurable impact in my work too. Welcoming slowness (still working in a timely matter of course).

I often find when doing anything, I have the feeling of “hurry up Tori!” and so I started asking myself, what’s the rush? Having a toddler is a great way to combat a constant hurried mental cycle haha! Of course there is always balance to find in this too, especially in business!

Anywho, I hope you enjoyed my ramblings.

May your photos feel like living memories. The reminder of the gift of being present in a moment.

And may creativity find you and become a beautiful antidote in the struggle of remaining present in the modern world.

Our sweet daughter is 3 now. We celebrated with at home yesterday with fun and whimsy dreamt up between running to photo sessions, painting a portrait and sitting at baseball games, and doing all the other life things. I was thankful for a day lived at her pace, a day that slowed us down and was full of love and laughter.

Always looking for stillness and slowness here even in fast paced seasons. 🤍
