Jessica Shannon Smith - Fiber Artist

Jessica Shannon Smith - Fiber Artist Welcome to Jessica Shannon Smith - Fiber Artist where everything is made with love and great attention to detail. http://www.jessicashannonsmith.com/

Welcome to Park Street Studios, my outlet for sharing my handmade objects. My name is Jessica Shannon-Smith. I have spent over 30 years creating “stuff.” My endeavors have included, but aren’t limited to, sewing, X-stitch, embroidery, needlepoint, latch hooking, rug hooking, quilting, painting, drawing, ceramics, print-making, wood carving, beading, scrap booking, drop spindle spinning, knitting,

loom weaving, photography, and more recently basket making and other woven fibre arts. Although I have a BA in photography and a minor in art history, I am predominately self-taught when it comes to crafts. My primary goal with opening up Park Street Studios is to get the objects I create into the hands of folks who will love them. It’s wonderful to create art, but it’s better to share it. My secondary goal is to break even on my artistic pursuits. I’m not out to get rich, only to fund my obsession. LOL

My third goal is to make room in my home. As much as I adore the items I make, it’s just not possible to keep them all. Many of the objects I’m selling have been proudly displayed in my home before being sold. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

I wear a few different hats. Lately, I've been clocking loads of hours on video production for a wacky kids' band called Cool Banana Wig. https://www.facebook.com/Cool-Banana-Wig-1530906147160709/

Cool Banana Wig's LIVE concerts focus on kids coming up and jamming with the band, playing a variety

Hey everyone. Sorry I have been really quiet recently. I am in the process of "rebranding" my business. Park Street Studios, while catchy, is too commonly used. I am switching to using my name, Jessica Shannon Smith. I was able to get the domain and everything! The new website is www.jessicashannonsmith.com and is up and running now. It will take time to import all the photos and info so please be patient. It, like life, is a work in progress.

It's been awhile since I last posted, but I haven't been idle. This season finds me obsessing with the idea of taking raw wool from local sheep through every stage necessary to produce felted fabric and/or yarn. This means cleaning, carding, dying, and felting or spinning it. I'm picking up my first batch of raw wool on Monday. (I should be getting more in early May, but for now the sheep is still using it.) I will post photos of each stage. The first photos I share with you today are of lichen I'm collecting to brew a batch of dye. I seem to have found 2, maybe 3 kinds. If anyone can identify them scientifically, it would be a big help. I'm trying to keep a pretty accurate journal of the dye process. I'll post more soon!
