Over the past summer, I had the opportunity to take a summer research course at MBL. During this course, I had access to all the microscopes I could ever want as well as a whole slew of new organisms to work with. The first image is of the legs of a copepod that was collected from the ocean. In orange is the exoskeleton of the organism, and the rainbow of colorful objects are nuclei colored based on their location in the legs. The second and third image are of the architecture of a slime mold (Physarum) actin cytoskeleton. The fourth image is of a single layer of cancer cells with their mitochondria colorized. The last image is of a marine organism named Trichoplax. Its membrane is colorized, and the image represents different snapshots during its movement in which each frame has a different color and then merged into one image.
