Fatima & Hassan. Look close. Can I tell you about the most meaningful week of my career?
A week of mind-blowing hospitality. It started under June’s winking moon & ended in sun-baked goodbyes of a midday sun. Seven days that left me on cloud nine creatively and emotionally. Only possible by the hospitality heaped on me.
Something this dear to me is not shared lightly. If only I could put you in my shoes, load you with my cameras, and let you look through my eyes. Music, food, joy that took my heart and gave it a twirl. My eyes delighting in swirls of color and kindness. Maybe it is best summed up by Fatima’s grandma. She spoke to me at the end of one night, of how similar we are in this world. Same joys, same sorrows, if only we let go of our fear of the unknown, sit a table, share a meal. Every human a work of art, when you get close enough.
Thank you to the arms that took mine, the eyes insisting I try the food, the smiles that gave me a place to stand. Congrats to Fatima, Hassan & their families. I’d do it all again tomorrow.
