Black Bear Drone Services LLC FAA Part 107 Certified Drone Pilot.

04/12/2026

Just wrapped up my FAA Part 107 recurrent training and I’m good for another two years.

All Part 107 pilots are required to complete this every two years to stay current. Hard to believe I’ve been flying drones for about ten years now, but I’ve officially been Part 107 certified for two. Time flies (literally).

Out in Corinth, Maine today alongside Rob from 2A TAC Air OPS Drone Services conducting a search for a lost cow named Frank.

We covered a lot of ground, launching from multiple locations to try and increase our chances of spotting him. Despite a thorough search of several square miles and good coverage of the area, Frank remains missing for now.

Let’s get Frank home 🐄

Up early today and just got a message that Baby came home early this morning. He tried making friends with a porcupine. He is getting checked out now at the Vets.

This such awesome news!

Went back out to Denmark today to continue the search for Baby, working alongside 2A TAC Air OPS Drone Services.

Picked up several heat signatures, including several groups of deer and even a discarded CRT TV still giving off heat, but unfortunately no sign of Baby today 😞

I wasn’t able to head out this morning to search for Baby because I was home with a sick kiddo. Once I was able to get out, I made my way to Denmark, just a short trip from Naples. As I got close to Baby’s home, My son Chris actually spotted him and I was able to capture it on my dash cam.

I searched from the air but wasn’t able to relocate him, flying right up until it got too dark to continue safely. I know Rob 2A TAC Air OPS Drone Services will be heading out in the morning, and I’m wishing him the best of luck bringing Baby home.

Baily was recently caught! This is good news!

I needed some good news today!

Baily in Clinton Maine was just rescued and is safe and sound!

He was sniffing around a trap that we set, and then went over to play with the property owners dog. The property owner then called Baily's owners who came over and used Calming Signals to get him!

He's getting some TLC as his fur is matted and he has a lot of ticks, but is otherwise in great shape!!!

We are so happy for Baily and his family!

Maine Lost Dog Recovery

Yesterday we headed up to Clinton to assist in the search for Baily. We spent nearly six hours covering as much ground as possible and identifying several areas where he may be taking shelter. While we didn’t get a visual sighting, there are still plenty of promising spots, and hope is definitely not lost.

Searches like this can take time, but every effort helps narrow things down and brings us one step closer. Hoping Baily turns up soon and makes it safely back home. 🐾

Remy is home 🐾

I got the call and headed out, keeping a close eye on the weather. Conditions held up on site, and I was able to locate her in under five minutes.

Outcomes like this don’t happen every time, but they’re always the goal. Grateful for the trust and happy to help bring her home.

Big news for me and Black Bear Drone Services today.

After a lot of time, effort, and learning, I’ve officially been approved by the FAA for a Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone waiver.

In simple terms, this means I can now legally fly my drone beyond what I can physically see, under strict safety guidelines.

For my lost pet searches, this is a game changer.

It means:

🐾 Covering more ground faster
🐾 Searching deeper into woods and rough terrain
🐾 Increasing the chances of bringing pets home

This wasn’t a quick process,it took building out safety procedures, documentation, and proving to the FAA that operations can be done safely.

I also want to give a huge thank you to Rob with 2A TAC Air OPS Drone Services for helping pave the way for operators like myself and for the guidance he provided during this waiver process. That support made a real difference.

Grateful for everyone who’s supported me along the way. We’re just getting started.

Great news today.

I left work a little early to help search for a missing dog named Eisbee, and I’m happy to share she was located safely and reunited with her family. Once I arrived in the area and began searching, we were able to spot her in about 20 minutes.

Every search is different, and I’m grateful this one had a quick and positive outcome. Thank you to everyone who shared posts and kept an eye out, community support makes a huge difference when pets go missing.

Unfortunately, my LP12 spotlight/speaker payload experienced a firmware failure and is currently bricked. It powers on but is no longer communicating with the aircraft. I’ve already reached out to both the manufacturer and a repair center to explore recovery or repair options.

Thermal capability is still fully operational, so search efforts will continue but no night operations until my spotlight is fixed.
