When life imitates art and art imitates life. A guy and his city. But not just a guy, a really good guy. I love how a place can reflect a person. Have you ever seen a beach person at the beach? It's a vibe. Big hat, bigger towel, a cooler. The newest edition of Vogue, a beach ball they half use as a pillow. I think I just described most of my Brazilian friends. That right is a moment and place for a shoot. I feel like when looking back at photos I'd rather remember the sights and sounds of the surroundings. The taste of salt, the sound of the ocean...or city and not something else. The world is the greatest studio. This session was all about recognizing their own brand of awesome. To my eye it worked. Where we're going we don't need roads. Figuratively speaking.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, I'm a product of strong women. Starting with my mom and sister and the many strong influential others I've crossed paths with either in person or story. From old friends to new ones, to coaches who have changed my life for the better, and my clients who are making this world a better place. I'm so inspired by all of you. You're all my spirit animals. There are so many I don't have photos of and that's gotta change soon. Definitely thankful and celebrating all the amazing women in my life today!

They asked what the vibe would be and I said, "Whimsical sassy like a Taylor Swift revenge song." But this was really just a Macguffin to try to capture the kind of pictures I always hope to capture. The genuine real kind. I can see the brightness in the photos but most importantly they can too. How cool is that? There was some music and dancing as well. I'm pretty sure dancing is still illegal in Napa. Our bad.

I hope everybody's been safe with all this rain. Hope it's just washed away the BS. I know it's given me a lot of time to recoup and hibernate. Winter me is cooking at home and planning moves for the rest of the year. Thinking about the Japanese maple I trucked home from LA, looking absolutely threadbare. Ready to have it's seasons in the new year. Kind of like, us.

It's funny how a brain works in the moments prior, during, and now after a photoshoot. Sometimes space is needed and then revisiting is a different experience even for me, the photographer. Of course the goal is to bring the subject to life and tell a bit of their story the best you can. The captures are never just the subjects story. The eye, the arrangement, the photos chosen is part of the duality of the photoshoot. Maybe even more. Not counting the three cameras I used. Two different film stocks and my Fuji digital. I chose this mini arrangement today because I always listen to the Dead when I drive to the coast. A few were Bay natives so makes sense. I listened to Echoes by Pink Floyd starting at that beat drop around 7 minute mark from the first location to the second. The story is always a lot more complex than just show up, smile, point, and capture. A story is many stories.

Hanging out one day, no doubt on a movie marathon afternoon, my friend Monish mentioned doing a shoot. Getting the opportunity to shoot with friends is always great. His reason? For himself. To capture this time in his life. There's no better reason to want to do a shoot. It was a great afternoon. I asked him how far we'd come since college days and we both laughed. So many worlds in so little time. Downtown Oakland was such an amazing backdrop for this session. There's strength in the buildings and art everywhere. It mirrored the guy in the pictures.

The new squad of femme fatales calling themselves the Dume Squad came out of nowhere. They come from various corners of the spiritual realm embodying the various paths of the known and unknown. They refuse to play live because, as they say, "We're already dread." I don't know what to make of that but what I *can* say is, wherever they choose to fly things happen. Whatever was stagnant comes alive. Physical objects too. "It's all energy, just ask a physicist," they said. They're not wrong. In a time we call modern we've never needed the ancient so much. Look for hit singles, err, spells? To come at you from out of nowhere. The Ghost with the Most, All the Spiritual Ladies, Big Witchin, I Put a Spell on You. Look for these wherever dreams are told.

I always liked watching skaters do their thing. It's fascinating to watch something that has no inherent purpose other than fun. That is when it comes to making it toss and turn in the air. But just like anything else with no evident purpose the point is fun, energy, and community. It's why all the nothings can definitely add up to something. CC
