A photo of a White-throated Kingfisher from Thailand that I didn't even know I captured! Kingfisher's are a bird that I usually struggle photographing. They are quite small, very fast and a bit shy towards humans. Kingfisher's tend to stand out in photography due to it's head to body proportion size. They also have amazing hunting habits in marshes.

Today in Thailand, lets take a look at the Purple Heron! Up, up and away! We see in this photo this Purple Heron taking flight. The Purple Heron reminds me of the Great Blue Heron back at home. These Herons are much more evasive and they like to stay further away from humans. They prefer thick vegetation to hunt for fish. The Purple Heron doesn't live within the United States so I was lucky enough to capture a photo.

Today in Thailand, lets take a look at the Asian Openbill Stork. This bird reminds me of the Woodstork's we have back at home in South Carolina. The main characteristic, is of course its bill being partially opened. What interests me though, is due to the angle of sunlight, green can become visible in the feathers of the wings. This is a similar characteristic that ive seen in Woodstorks. When either species of stork is in breeding season, they have fresh feather plumage. When this happens the green feathers can become even more colorful. In my second photo, the green is very vivid so I believe its due to breeding season and being lucky enough to have great lighting conditions.

Today in Thailand, we fly to Chang Rai to visit "Wat Rong Khun" or "The White Temple". Designed by the famous artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, the entrance to the main hall represents the cycle of rebirth. Hands claw out of the ground representing hell and unrestrained desires like greed and temptation. As you cross the bridge it signifies leaving these tempatations behind and crossing over into heaven. The last photo of the beautiful golden building is actually just the nearby public restroom đŸ˜† It is still beautifully built despite its purpose.

The final temple of Bangkok is Wat Arun. Due to walking in the heat and just spending a few hours visiting the last two temples, we are taking a scenic photo from afar. In front of the temple, we see the Chao Phraya River. We can also see some various boats crossing in front of the temple. Quite beautiful.

Part 2: Today in Thailand, we take a look at the temple, "Wat Pho" also known as "The Reclining Buddha". Here we see close up photos of Buddha statues lined up outside Wat Pho. There are over 400 statues of different uniquely designed Buddha statues. Below each statue is the name of the family responsible for restoration and upkeep of each statue. Many of these statues were rescued from other abandoned or war-torn cities.

Part 1: Today in Thailand, we take a look at the temple, "Wat Pho" also known as "The Reclining Buddha". Wat Pho is another temple in Bangkok that draws tourists from across the globe to marvel at this 150 foot long Buddha statue! Its quite the feat to design and build something so tremendous.
