There are some people in your life that shape you without ever realizing it. The people you grow up looking at and thinking, “I hope I’m just like her one day.”

For me, that person has always been my Brookie Bear.

When we were little, I would BEG my mom to let me stay at her house every single time we went to Minnesota for our family vacation. Those weekends felt like the best days ever. We’d stay up way too late listening to Justin Bieber on repeat, watching movies (I swear I forced her to watch Hansel and Gretel so many times just to get scared in the middle of the night that the Sandman was going to get me), laughing until our stomachs hurt, her letting me paint her nails and play with her hair, and making memories that somehow still feel just as vivid all these years later. She was my favorite person in the world, and honestly… she still is.

I never stopped looking up to her.

When she asked me to photograph her wedding—the very first wedding I had ever shot—she trusted me before I had ever proven I could do it. That’s something I’ll never forget. She believed in me enough to hand me one of the biggest days of her life, and that’s a gift I’ll carry forever.

And her wedding… it was so perfectly HER.

In a world where everyone feels pressured to make everything look the same, she didn’t. She chose bright pinks and purples because that’s what made her happy. She didn’t chase trends or worry about what was “in.” She made every single detail a reflection of who she is, and I admired that more than she probably knows. It reminded me that the most beautiful things are the ones that are authentic.

These photos have sat in my files for far too long— not because they weren’t important enough to share over and over, but because they were almost too important. My first wedding. My favorite people. My favorite cousin. I kept telling myself I’d post more when I found the perfect words, and I realized there aren’t any words perfect enough.

These pictures are raw. They are real, and full of emotion.. They’re not posed, or staged. They are real time, family loving filled photographs that I got to capture.

To my Brook: thank you for believing in me before I believed in myself. Thank you for giving me my first wedding. Thank you for teaching me, without even trying, that it’s okay to be unapologetically yourself. And thank you for being one of the biggest role models in my life, even if I haven’t said it nearly enough.

I hope you know that little girl who begged to spend every weekend with you never really went away. I would do it all over again!

I love you more than you’ll ever know. 🤍
