Saddle Shootout Update!

The race to the ICHA Saddle Shootout Finals is on! With just two qualifying days remaining on Friday and Saturday during our August show, there's still time to earn your place in the finals.

The current standings are shown below, including riders who have already qualified, those who are just one show away, and those who can still qualify by showing both Friday and Saturday in August.

After Friday and Saturday's qualifying rounds are complete, the top five qualified riders in each class ($50,000 Non-Pro, $25,000 Amateur, and $4,000 Limited Rider) will advance to the Saddle Shootout Finals on Sunday.
And for more excitement…all prizes up for grabs are listed below!

🥈 Reserve Champion: Trophy Headstall
📸 All 15 finalists will receive a cowhide picture frame and a complimentary action photo from Sundial and Sage Collective.

One of my favorite parts of photographing horses is getting to capture who they really are:

The way they perk their ears when they hear their person.
The little quirks only you notice that make them truly unique.
The old tack that’s been part of your journey together.
The gray around their eyes that reminds you how many years you’ve shared.

Honestly, some of my favorite images are the ones that happen in between the posed shots.

This recent portrait session reminded me how quickly time passes with these incredible animals. Whether it’s your heart horse, your rodeo partner, the old gelding who taught your kids to ride, or the young one you’ve been dreaming big with, they’re only this version of themselves for a little while.

If you’ve been thinking, “I really need to get some pictures of my horse,” don’t keep putting it off. Those photos only become more meaningful as the years go by.

I’m currently booking equine portrait sessions throughout Southern Illinois through the fall and winter (and across the country, ask us about travel!)

My sessions are laid back, centered around you and your horse, and focused on capturing the connection you share, not forcing perfect poses.

Some of my favorite photographs after every rodeo weekend are the candid ones.

The moments nobody plans for—contestants getting ready, horses watching the world go by, stock enjoying a quiet break, and little brothers and sisters completely content with a bucket and a pile of sand.

These are the moments that make the equine world so special. The community, the lifestyle, and the memories made between the runs.
