A little clarity as I move forward since I have had a lot of people asking! 🤍

I shared earlier that I was stepping away from photography as a business, and that decision came from a desire to protect my family and my peace.

What I’ve come to understand is that photography itself is still something God uses in meaningful ways - just not as a traditional business. So I’ll continue photographing in a quieter, more intentional, ministry-led way, taking on sessions sparingly and prayerfully.

What a beautiful January morning it is!

I wanted to share with you some things I have been working on (and that have been working on me) the last few weeks.

Back in August I had a nudge to take my love and passion for photography and turn it into a faith-led purpose project.

Photography was always more of a hobby for me - "mom-tography" I called it. But I wanted to use it as a way to help others who otherwise wouldn't be able to have photos done! I was blown away by the amount of support, connections and opportunities this brought.

In all my ventures, I have wanted to be a guiding light and a servant to others in some way. To fill a void or meet a need and do so gracefully. You'll often hear me say, "It's the southern in me." But the truth is I have just always wanted to be a reflection of Jesus' love in the world.

God has been working on me a lot the past few months - and my convictions have come to the surface more than ever.

I believe every business I have ever had - has all been perfectly designed to lead me right to this exact moment in my life.

It made me seek Him, His guidance, and His mercy more than ever.

I realized that there was always an imbalance in my life and that every time I would feel called to help the community, it brought me further away from home.

Going without a vehicle in November and my husbands emergency surgery in December made me stop, slow down and really look at how much I am wanted and needed at home. Not just physically but my presence as well.

I have also realized how fast time goes by when I am busy - and that's one of my biggest convictions - is that I am so busy and distracted that life is going by me like a blur.

Many don't know this - but I also homeschool my youngest daughter, who this business was named after. She is with me 24/7, so there are no "business hours while she's at school." I named this business after her because how much she inspires me and how much of a light she is, but saw how her light was dimming as I was often busy or burnt out. And yes, I know there are plenty of powerful women out there juggling homeschooling, full-time jobs and successful businesses and I praise their persistence!

But for me it's not whether or not I CAN, but if I should. I think of all the things I want to teach her, and teach myself, instead of spending hours behind a screen editing or away at sessions.

Traveling - learning a new skill together- unplugging - and truly enjoying this beautiful life I was blessed with.

But most importantly - Presence.

I truly believe my calling is Holy work inside my home, it just took me faithfully getting out there to serve others to see it clearly. He led, I followed, and my eyes opened to the impact and work I do inside these walls.

With that, I have decided that outside of my current Year Pass clients - I will not be doing photography as a business and will focus on the occasional creative session and community projects as I see fit.

I know there were a few people hoping to book with me this year, so I have decided to open up 3 more spots to snag a Year Pass - then that will be it.

Whew — I’ve been a little quiet lately, and I wanted to share why.

Some of you already know this, but for those who don’t: last week my husband had a very unexpected emergency surgery. What started as a severe stomach ache and an ER visit turned out to be a rare and life-threatening twist in his intestines. Surgery was the only option. After a few days in the hospital, he’s now home, healing, and doing really well — and we’re incredibly grateful. 🙏🏻

Let me start by saying I am so thankful for every single one of my clients this year! Even though I just officially launched my business in September, I learned so much in that short time and appreciate everyone who has trusted me to capture their memories! 🫶🏻

For my clients who I had to cancel these last few weeks - I am so sorry and your grace and understanding is appreciated more than you could ever know! I am currently without a vehicle while it’s getting repairs from an accident earlier this month and it’s not anticipated to be fixed until sometime in December.

I have had quite a few inquiries about Christmas photos and since I don’t know the exact date my car will be done, I’ve decided it is best not to commit to anymore sessions the remainder of the year.

As we head into the end of the year and I am reflecting on these last few months, I’ve realized the only way for me to keep this sustainable for myself is to make some changes.

I have loved photography ever since I was a little girl who had to have a disposable camera everywhere she went. Don’t get me started on my first Polaroid! I wanted a way to turn my passion into purpose, but in doing so I exhausted myself both physically and financially.

Starting next year, I will no longer be offering my Pay What You Can Program. Moving forward I will be gifting one FREE session per month. This way, families don’t have to feel guilty for how much they may or may not be able to contribute. I will also be implementing a Pay It Forward Program where clients can contribute extra on their session to go towards helping families who may otherwise not be able to afford family photos. More details to come!

There will be new pricing for regular clients, to make sure I am at minimum covering my time and expenses which is not something I was achieving before.

I also want to do more documentary style sessions, less posed and more intimate. So if you have an idea - or just want to let me have fun with it - let’s chat! I may offer special pricing if I love the idea!

📸: A senior session I did before my accident!

I’ve gone back and forth about whether to share this, but I’ve always believed in being transparent about the journey — not just the pretty parts.

Yesterday, after finishing a session, I hit a deer on my way home. My car was damaged, and while I’m grateful everyone is okay, the timing hit hard. On top of that, my current business expenses have been exceeding my profits — a reality of serving others through “pay what you can” photography.

Photography has been a way for me to serve — especially families who may not otherwise have access to professional photos. I’ve poured my heart into this work because I believe every story is worthy of being remembered.

Right now, I’m praying about what moving forward looks like — how to continue creating and serving while also protecting the peace of my home and heart. I hope to find a way to continue capturing stories in a way that is sustainable.

If you’ve ever booked a session, shared a kind word, referred a friend, or simply believed in me — thank you. Truly. You’ve helped me grow more than you know.

I’m not asking for anything — just your prayers and encouragement as I trust that God will provide and guide the next steps.

I can't tell you how many times I drove past this building - thinking it was just another thrift store.

Then, God introduced me to Heather at an event and she shared with me the wonderful Works she is doing in our community. I knew immediately this was an organization I wanted to support in whatever ways I could!

I stopped by for a few pictures to help share their mission! We opened the morning with prayer and I got to see first hand what goes on behind the store front, the people that are being helped and the ways they are impacting the community and sharing the love of Christ.

Call it what you will, but I started having issues with camera during this session. I became frustrated and imposter syndrome kicked in - asking myself what I was doing wrong and if I wasn't skilled enough.

While editing at home, those feelings grew stronger. "You're not a photographer - you're just a girl with an overpriced camera and a dying dream. And you're not very good either."

Then I remembered that the Thief intervenes to cause disruption when we are doing the Lord's work, to test our faith, and to pull us away from His divine purpose.

The more work I do selflessly to serve others and be an example of Jesus' love, the more I question and criticize myself.

I never thought when starting this business it would take the direction it has - but I always say that this is His plan and not my plan. This is a reminder of that!
