Do you like dragonflies? Im about to blow your mind... Dragonflies mate in a unique "wheel" or "heart" formation. The male grabs the females neck with the end of his tail which has a clasper on it that is designed to fit specific shape indents around the females neck like a lock & key also to prevent cross species breeding. The males are so territorial & rough when breeding that some times the females have been documented FAKING death to avoid the unwelcomed harassment. After he grabs her neck she lifts her abdomen up to his secondary genitalia which is how they form the circle. The males secondary genitalia on their underbelly is separate from the primary s***m production site towards the end of the tail. Males often have to remove existing s***m from the females previous mates before transferring his own. Most times the pair will fly in tandom while the female lays her eggs in the water. The male dragonfly continues to hold on to her neck to ensure another male dosen't try to mate with her & scoop his s***m out...
I wish my lense would have focused better. They was so long it couldn't focus on them both at once. It was a wonderful thing to experience & so beautiful to see.

No racing leathers or PPE needed for this big guy. He races through the air, knowing he owns it. Landing on the sassafras tree all the other insects get out of his way. With his mean biker looks & the almost appearance of a Mohawk from the sides hes one bad Mama Jamma & he knows it too. This bald- faced hornet is not a true hornet, but technically a type of yellow jacket. A very large one growing up to ¾ inch long. They have distinct ivory-white markings on their face, thorax, & abdomen. They love craft time especially paper mache as they build large football shaped paper nests that measure up around 24 inches in length & 24 inches around. It has to be large to accommodate the anywhere from 100-700 members it will hold. They will only live a year leaving the queen behind all winter to start a new army in the spring. Be cautious ⚠️ though as these top gun pilots can sting repeatedly. Despite the information above they are beneficial predators who control pests like spiders, ( oh no! Not my Miss Spider's Sunny Patch!!) caterpillars, flies & aphids 🐝 also look at that last picture.. I know i can't be the only one. 😅

I just had an absolutely wonderful experience happen to me. I was in the driveway when I noticed this little guy pop out from under the front fender. I squatted down to prepare. Usually this type of spider starts running at this point but this little guy litteraly looked up at me almost to smile & show off his dinner that he worked so hard to catch. (Incase you didn't know jumping spiders like this from the Salticidae family dont hunt with webs, they stalk their prey down & jump on them to catch them.) He sat there for about 25 seconds when he would stop looking at me I'd whistle & he would look back. Unfortunately im a bit shakey today & kinda upset I didn't get the best photo that this little guy deserved. 🥺 but this memory shall remain with me & he will hence forth be known as Albert

This little guy was the highlight of my bug finds yesterday. Orange-banded Checkered Beetle (Enoclerus ichneumoneus) he was almost too fast to photography hence why I wasn't able to get but a few pics. Hes a predator beetle that often feeds on other insects & bark beetles. I wanted pictures but he had places to go, pretty cool that they've evolved to look like a velvet ant a type of wasp to hopefully detour other predators.

So far the coolest eye of the bug kingdom! Red Paper Wasp (Polistes carolina) a natural redhead as you can see the fur on his little body which comes in second to their aggressiveness just like most natural redheads they are ready to throw down & fight at any moment regardless of size. 🐝 🤣🤣

Imagine you're this small guy hard at work. Being outdoors collecting nesting and running errands only to get home to a nagging wife and a bunch of kids. All complaining, they don't want a home cook meal. They want something out so you go out irritated & everyone is like excuse me little lady, & awe you're so pretty, & let the lady go first (like they don't see your 5 o'clock shadow. So now your pi**ed, trying to get everything done while the entire world thinks your a cute little lady. I feel bad for the male Coccinellidae (lady bug) population they want to be masculine & handsome. Also a group of these beetles is called a "loveliness" 😅🤣 🐞

Gerald the fly here took no shave November a little too seriously. Look at those back legs! Just for a little size comparison here is a picture of him & the flower without my macro lense. He has racing stripes & looks a little dry he also may be a bit of a menace at your summer BBQ, but he plays a crucial part in the ecosystems health, acting as major pollinators, rapid decomposers of waste and carcasses, and a crucial food source for birds, fish, and reptiles. So even though they may be a headache to you without them our circle of life wouldn't be the same.
