Spring in the desert has to be one of my favorites, rivaling fall in the mountains. Cactus flowers, flowing water, warm sunshine in tall canyons is a special experience. Solid reminder that western Colorado is a cool place to live!

Some desert colors this week. Made it out to a spot that has been on my photo bucket list. Still need to go back when the sky cooperates to let me get a milky way photo but this spot is well worth multiple visits.

First home game of the season!!! Good to be back behind the camera. It has been awhile!

More shots from hiking in the Colorado Monument before the snow. Relatively easy hiking back into some beautiful areas. Definitely want to go early because it started to get busy with hikers and runners by the time we were back at the car.

Last of the Sandhill Cranes moving through on their migration south. Got these last week, before all the snow moved in. Did you know that these birds mate for life, have a wingspan of 7 ft, and are one of oldest living species on the planet - with fossils dating back over 2.5 million years! Pretty cool animals!

Had about given up hope of seeing any sheep during our hike in the Colorado Monument. I was following out to one last overlook and happened to look straight down while we were talking to see this little group of young rams with a couple ewes.

This was my first time back since the fire this summer and it was pretty wild to see just how much was burned. The smell of ash and charcoal was unmistakable as you walked through the remains of the oaks and junipers that once were. I didn't capture it, but there are already signs of new life starting with small clumps of grass popping up from the ash and even small oak leaves sprouting from the charred stumps.

First time seeing the Northern Lights with my own eyes. Took awhile for your eyes to adjust and of course it is nothing like the camera picks up, but still very cool!

Maybe I need to book a trip up north to see them for real!

Practicing focusing my attention onto the patterns, shapes, and textures around me. I'm not aure if I'm a fan of this type of abstract landscapes but it helped me look at my environment from a different perspective.

Pretty gorgeous reflection in a spring near the dancing aspens last weekend. It really has been a gorgeous fall season this year. I'm incredibly grateful to have had so much time to go exploring!

More shots from around silverton from last weekend. Rain storm rolled through, we were greeted with this epic rainbow, and then after it cleared up we had the moose encounter from my previous post. I need a two week vacation end of September and first week of October! Weekends are just not enough time to really maximize the weather and colors.
