Lake Superior Nights – August Workshop

The North Shore doesn’t just go quiet at night—it transforms.

The crowds disappear. The wind softens. And above it all, the Milky Way stretches across the sky.

This August, I’ll be out there with Hayes Scriven Photography and Nathan Klok Photography—teaching how to shoot in the dark, lock in focus when you can’t see, and turn a night under the stars into something you can bring home with you.

We’ll spend our days recharging—editing, exploring, and getting ready to do it all over again.

Our first workshop filled fast. This one is heading the same way.

I’m proud to announce that my photo of the Northern Lights and Big Dipper shining bright over the Aerial Lift Bridge in Duluth, MN during a strong geomagnetic storm won first place in the national drone photo contest I recently entered!

The theme of the photo contest was “Something Green,” to go along with Spring.

There’s a moment along the North Shore when the last light fades, the wind settles, and the stars take over.

That’s where this workshop lives.

This August, I’ll be joined by Nicholas J. Narog Photography and Nathan Klok Photography as we spend our nights chasing the Milky Way along Lake Superior—learning how to focus in the dark, dial in settings, and build images that feel as powerful as the scene itself.

By day, we slow things down with editing sessions and time exploring the rugged beauty of the North Shore.

Lake Superior Nights – Astrophotography Workshop (New August Dates Added!)

After our September workshop filled so quickly, we’re excited to announce that we’ve added an additional Lake Superior Nights experience this August.

I’ll once again be joining two of Minnesota’s top astrophotographers — Nicholas J. Narog Photography and Hayes Scriven Photography — to host this immersive night sky photography workshop along the North Shore.

This workshop is designed to help you capture the night sky while building the skills needed to confidently photograph and process astrophotography images.

Our evenings will be spent under the stars, with a primary focus on Milky Way photography. We’ll cover focusing in the dark, dialing in camera settings, using star trackers, planning your shots, and creating strong compositions.

During the day, we’ll host guided editing sessions and explore nearby Minnesota State Parks to photograph classic North Shore landscapes.

Registration is now open.
