We were having so much fun on this set that I really can’t tell if I’m about to make a another joke or actually directing in this picture.

These are the faces of a crew after their 13th hour on set. I couldn’t ask for a better group of people if I tried. Truly couldn’t have done it without any single one of them.

Keeping the dramatic tone for this shot came with many challenges. The formidable one was making the blue painted walls of my kids old nursery not look so joyful. How did I do?

What I love most about this scene is its simplicity. Hands down my favorite shot to date and yet it was one of the easiest setups I've ever done. When they say gear doesn't matter, I assume this is what they're referring to.

INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT (MOS)
ZACHARY, mid 20s hesitantly leans in towards the crack of the door, a single light illuminates his face. His hand shakingly makes its way to his mouth as his eyes widen. Within a series of compressed breathes his second hand reinforces the first. With acceptance, he closes his eyes.

I really wanted a shot that dialed in on the character’s s fear in this scene. I didn’t want any distractions in the background. So how do you do that? You could either crank that bokeh all the way up, or do what I did and black out everything that isn’t important. What’s important here is the actors’ performance and that little glimmer of light that seeps in through the crack.

Lighting for a dark room is always my go to when I don’t want to tackle the beast that is lighting an entire room. It’s simple and you don’t have to worry about as many variables. Call it what it is.. it’s a cop out.

INT. OFFICE - NIGHT
OZZIE, 25 sits at a desk. A pile of money to his left, a pistol at a quick arms reach to his right.
He hacks at his keyboard with a purpose, or so it
seems. Puzzlingly he throws his hands on his head.
He allows them to run down to his neck and onto the desk as he sighs. Ozzie looks off.
Fade out.

It’s interesting to note how vastly the mood changes just by simply toying with the Color Temperature.
The warmer tone gives off the impression there’s a door ajar off to my right. Allowing some of the hallway light to seep in.
The cooler tone does the same thing in essence, however, makes it look like a window is off to my right instead allowing the moon light to seep in.
