I stood in the middle of the Algerian Sahara for this shot, watching the entire sky slowly spin above me through the night.
Out there, with nothing but sand, rock formations, silence, and millions of stars overhead, time felt completely different. No distractions. No noise. Just me under one of the darkest skies I’ve ever seen.

Sometimes I travel to places like this to photograph them… but sometimes I think places like this photograph a moment in my life too. I honestly could’ve stayed out there until sunrise. Would you spend a night this far away from civilization?

I’ve photographed a lot of places, but this night in the Algerian Sahara felt different.

Standing out there surrounded by endless dunes, with absolutely no noise and the Milky Way stretching across the sky above me, honestly felt surreal. It’s one of those moments that makes me stop and realize how massive the universe is and how small we really are in it.

I’ll never forget the feeling of being out there under a sky like this.

Sunsets in the Algerian Sahara are a breathtaking spectacle, painting the sky with hues that defy imagination. Algeria’s beauty is simply unparalleled, a place where magic lingers in the air. I can't wait to revisit this enchanting and wondrous land.

Hello everyone! This is my first post from Algeria 🇩🇿

I don’t think photos can fully explain what this trip felt like, but this moment came close. Standing in the middle of the Algerian Sahara at night, surrounded by silence, massive dunes, and a sky filled with more stars than I’ve ever seen… it honestly felt unreal.

Algeria surprised me in the best way possible — the landscapes, the history, the hospitality, the food, and the people. This trip gave me memories I’ll carry for a very long time.

This is Algeria. And this is only the beginning of what I experienced there!

The night before it all begins.

Every year I arrive in Death Valley a little early. I stand under a sky like this, breathe it in, and remind myself why we do it.

For four days and three nights it’s the same rhythm:
2:30am meet-ups under the stars.
Photograph through sunrise.
Breakfast. Sleep.
Sunset. Dinner. A few hours of rest.
Then back at it again at 2:30am.

It’s exhausting. It’s relentless. It’s absolutely worth it. This year's workshop, I had the privilege of guiding an incredible group of photographers who showed up hungry to learn and fully present for the experience. Watching them grow, push themselves, and share in the awe of this place is the real reward.

They came for the Milky Way and morning and afternoon light. They left with stronger skills, new friendships, and a few unforgettable nights, sunrises, and sunsets.

Goal met. Until next year, Death Valley.

Last year during my annual Death Valley photo workshop, this is what we were chasing.

Not just the Milky Way — but how to capture it cleanly in one of the darkest skies in the U.S.

We scouted this foreground in daylight, timed the moon perfectly, and shot with intention so the core stayed detailed and natural — not overcooked in post.

This isn’t about guessing settings. It’s about knowing where to be, when to be there, and how to execute.
