🚨 NOT ALL DRONE OPERATORS ARE CREATED EQUAL.
If you’re hiring a drone operator to photograph or video a property, compliance matters.
The FAA recently proposed a $289,215 civil penalty against Gorge Drones for alleged unauthorized drone operations. According to the FAA, the alleged violations included operating an agricultural drone without the required agricultural aircraft operator certificate, operating an unregistered drone, and operating without an airworthiness certificate. The alleged violations occurred in March and April 2025.
That should be a reminder to anyone hiring a drone operator:
The person flying over your property is responsible for knowing and following the rules.
For commercial property imagery, a professional drone operator should understand requirements such as:
✅ FAA Part 107 certification
✅ Proper drone registration
✅ Airspace authorization when required
✅ Operational limitations and restrictions
✅ Remote ID requirements when applicable
✅ Safe and responsible flight operations
✅ Current FAA regulations and restrictions
And there is a bigger reason this matters than simply checking a box.
You are putting a professional aircraft operation over your property, your clients, your employees, and the public.
At BCOW Property Imagery, we believe aerial photography should be more than getting a drone in the air and pressing record.
It should be safe, legal, professional, and intentional.
📸🏡 Whether you need aerial imagery for a listing, property marketing, construction documentation, commercial property, or another project, ask your drone operator about their qualifications and compliance before they take off.
Cheap isn’t always cheap when the operator doesn’t know the rules.
Fly safe. Fly legal. Hire professionals.
