Following a post-9/11 layoff, one of my friends helped me re-discover photography—and combine it with subject matters that I actually had interest in covering: extreme sports and concerts. With the ability to be in close proximity to people that I admire, as well as being able to capture images from a perspective that most do not have the change to get, I've been in love with photography ever since.

A tribute to in honor of this weekend in Washington, DC (which I had major FOMO for…but wanted to celebrate Father’s Day with my dad). I attended so many of the tour dates in the “gravel pit” at Nissan Pavilion (now Jiffy L**e Live) and then Merriweather Post Pavilion. I loved seeing all the bands, getting the freebies from Monster and other sponsors, running into friends, getting selfies with band members and vert ramp athletes I’d admired and (sometimes) befriended along the way. I even photographed some of them, when I wasn’t being a fan. (If I can find the old footage, I’ll post some pics.) Here’s to you, my youth, and hopes of more tour dates in the future. 🖤

Friday night, I got to attend Brad Meltzer’s and Chris Eliopoulos’ book tour to celebrate their newest release, “I Am Ruth Bader Ginsburg” and last summer’s “I Am Wonder Woman.” Wonder Woman herself — and my childhood hero — Lynda Carter was a special guest, and she and Brad interviewed each other for the first portion. (I might’ve teared up slightly while she was speaking. 🥹) Meanwhile, Chris drew illustrations of people featured in books past. And, finally, there was a book signing at the end for autographs and selfies.

I may not have gotten into the grand opening show at the Atlantis a bit ago (even though I tried), but I got front row on the rail to see the Foo Fighters this time around at Virginia Beach! 🙌🏼 My new concert buddies and I found space in front of Chris Shiflett…one of my faves ever since meeting him ages ago on the Warped Tour! 💗 At the end of the show, I caught a pick from Rami (the keyboardist) 🙌🏼 …and I nearly caught a pick that Chris threw at me. 😩 First time seeing Josh Freese on drums for the Foo Fighters, and he’s killing it! 🔥 💗

Tonight, I attended the Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service concert as a long-time fan. We were the first in the nation to hear The Postal Service live since their last tour date at Lollapalooza in 2013. Appropriately, they opened their set with “The District Sleeps Alone Tonight.” 🙌🏼 This show definitely was one of my favorites…Top 10 material. 💗 Opening the show was Lauren Mayberry (front woman of CHVRCHES); I’m definitely adding some of her singles to my playlist. 🎶
