Family photos: work smarter not harder edition.

Want your family pictures to look cohesive without everyone wearing the same checkered outfit? Time to use a little color theory magic!

•Start with a Color Palette: Choose 2–3 main tones (earthy neutrals, soft pastels, or rich jewel tones). Think harmony, not uniformity.

•Use the Color Wheel:
✔ Complementary colors (opposites on the wheel) = bold & dynamic
✔ Analogous colors (next to each other) = soft & natural
✔ Monochrome (different shades of one color) = sleek & timeless

•Balance Patterns & Solids: If one person wears a print, let the others wear solids that pull from those colors.

📸 Pro Tip: Think about your location! A forest backdrop = warm earth tones. something by the lake? Cooler tones and whites shine.

You’ll thank yourself later when every photo actually looks like it belongs on a gallery wall.

When I get the honor of photographing families who’ve just welcomed a new baby, there’s one resounding phrase that whispers in my head while I’m editing:

On earth as it is in heaven.

The tiniest of toes. The hours poured out in care. The gentleness and patience required. Overflowing abundant love.

On earth as it is in heaven.

I have few words to describe the miracle of life other than it is a good good gift.

May we always have eyes to see glimpses of heaven in our children and families.

Quick FAQ: How does your waitlist work?

In the fall my mini sessions are my most popular session type. I LOVE MINIS! They tend to sell out very quickly and often I have clients who want to book at a certain location that fills up.

Once all slots are booked on a specific date, my waitlist will open and interested clients can enter in their contact information to be notified when and if I add more dates to my calendar!

When I make a change to my calendar or add more dates-I send openings to my waitlist people FIRST!

It’s truly a win win for everyone!

PS- My fall mini sessions are NOW LIVE and ready for booking! Check my booking site for which sessions are left!!

Last fall, I had a client tell me something I will never forget...

“We’re just not a mini session family.”

At first I had to take a moment to understand what she meant.

But then we got to talking about her family. How in the past pictures haven’t gone the best. How, when they feel rushed most of the time things unravel. Or when a camera comes out her youngest becomes overly shy and wants to hide. All valid and true details about her family. I tried thinking of ways to help her as she continued talking... ways to maybe make the “mini session” feel manageable for her...

Then she said, “we can’t sign up for a mini session like I want to and I know it’s your busy season...but is there any chance we can we do a FULL session instead? We’re just not a mini session family.”

My answer was a simple YES! Because there is absolutely POWER in knowing what your family can and can’t handle.

And while I rant and rave about mini sessions (I do love them and will sing their praises), they’re not one size fits all.

Some families need more time in front of the camera, some kids need more space to breathe, and others just want to adventure without a rush.

All of this to say, if you’re not the mini session type family, know that I am here for you too!! I have built in flex days this fall for a limited amount of full sessions or extended family sessions.

There’s room here at the table for you. Especially if your fam needs more time during a session. To book, simply send an inquiry thorough my booking site and we’ll get the ball rolling!!

“No one tells us how often life will feel like a run-on sentence. In the way that grief spills into joy, and joy leaks into fear, and fear lingers in the middle of love. There are no neat pauses. No full stops. Just a story that keeps unfolding before we’ve learned what the last line was trying to teach us... “ - B. Ricks.

I read these words from (shared with permission) and had to go back and read them two more times. What a truth so simple yet so profound.

Life moves on before we’re ready. Our kids continue to grow, our parents age, and our desires evolve. Time moves on.

And it is one thing to move onward in solitude, it is a completely other experience to move forward together.

This is the one thing that continually draws me to family photography: there is a togetherness that is hard won.

Even in the driest seasons, the slowest seasons, or the seasons that feel like they drag on... in the end we still have each other. And as cliche as that sounds, it matters a whole lot.

Happy Monday!

Did you catch the sneak peeks on my stories yesterday?! If you missed it, I shared more details about my fall family minis! They’re bookmarked in my highlights for you so go take a look!

I have a great selection of locations this year—some are tried and true locations and others are brand NEW! There are locations scattered across DFW both with morning and evening time options.

Registration goes out 9/1 to my email list. All fall family minis are set to “self book” so you can do that at your leisure—but not too leisurely. Spots fill up fast ya know?!

Have a lovely week!
