Shadows don’t always hide the story… sometimes they reveal it.

A quiet moment wrapped in soft light, rich shadows, and timeless elegance. This session with Lydia Lida was all about creating mood over motion—letting light sculpt emotion instead of simply illuminating a subject.

These are just a few favorites from a set of 14 images captured at Studio 821 in Newport, Kentucky. Every frame explores a different expression, a different feeling, and the beauty that exists between light and darkness.

Some shoots are about capturing a person. Others are about creating a world.

This set was inspired by gothic imagery, religious symbolism, and dark fantasy. The stained glass, the deep reds, the veil, and the crown all came together to tell a story that’s open to interpretation. That’s one of the things I enjoy most about creative portraiture—everyone walks away seeing something different.

Huge thanks to renee (’s.so.ginge) for bringing this vision to life and fully committing to the concept.
