Another beautiful day behind the camera. 📸✨

Yesterday I spent the evening at Greenfield Village capturing an engagement session surrounded by timeless charm, historic streets, and some truly beautiful moments. I’m so grateful for every couple who trusts me to document such an exciting season of their lives.

I can’t wait to share more from this session soon. 🤍

Every session I photograph is approached a little differently — because every couple is different. 🤍

Some couples are naturally playful and energetic. Others are quieter and more intimate. Some need lots of direction, while others settle into the moment right away.

That’s why I never want sessions to feel overly scripted or one-size-fits-all. I pay attention to personalities, comfort levels, energy, and connection so your photos actually feel like *you*.

Last weekend’s engagement sessions were the perfect example of that. Even with two couples and two completely different dynamics, both sessions created beautiful moments in their own way — and that’s exactly what I love most about photography. ✨

📸 What I’ve improved this year 📸

One thing I’ve really focused on this year is creating a session experience that feels natural instead of overly posed.

I’ve learned how to guide people more intentionally, help couples feel relaxed faster, and pay closer attention to the small in-between moments that make a gallery feel personal and real. I’ve also pushed myself creatively — trying new angles, better lighting techniques, and finding ways to make every gallery feel unique to the people in it.

Growth as a photographer isn’t always about having the newest gear or the “perfect” setup. A lot of it comes from experience, confidence, and learning how to connect with people better every single session.

And honestly… this weekend’s engagement shoots gave me even more creative inspiration going into summer sessions. ☀️✨

✨ What this season has taught me ✨

This season has reminded me that photography is so much more than just taking beautiful photos. It’s learning how to read the room, helping people feel comfortable, embracing imperfect moments, and realizing that some of the best images happen in between the poses.

Every session this year has taught me something different — whether it’s slowing down and letting moments unfold naturally, finding confidence in creativity, or simply appreciating the trust people place in me to capture such important seasons of their lives.

Last weekend’s engagement session at Belle Isle in Detroit was another reminder that the best photos usually come from genuine connection, laughter, and simply letting couples be themselves. 🫶📸

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to document these moments and explore some of Michigan’s most beautiful locations along the way.

Back at Belle Isle chasing that golden hour glow ✨📸

If you need me, I’ll be convincing another couple that “just one more photo” is absolutely necessary because the light is too good to waste. 😅

Here’s to beautiful sunsets, genuine laughter, and creating memories that last long after the sun goes down.

While I’m taking photos, my mind is actually tracking about 20 different things at once. 😂📷

I’m constantly paying attention to:
☀️ the lighting
🌿 the background
📸 tiny details in the frame
🤍 natural emotion and interaction
✨ movement and body language

But beyond all of the technical things, I’m also looking for the moments people don’t realize are happening.

The quick smile right before you laugh.
The way someone reaches for your hand naturally.
The emotional reactions in between the “official” moments.

A lot of photography is anticipation — noticing moments before they happen and being ready for them when they do.

That’s usually where the magic is. ✨

One thing I hear from clients all the time is:
“We’re awkward in photos.” 😅

And honestly? Almost everyone feels that way at first.

That’s why my approach isn’t about stiff poses or forcing moments that don’t feel natural. Instead, I focus on gentle guidance and movement so your photos still feel like you.

I’ll help with:
✨ where to place your hands
✨ natural movement and prompts
✨ flattering angles and lighting
✨ what to do when you “don’t know what to do”

But some of the best moments happen in between all of that — the laughing, the fixing each other’s hair, the little reactions you don’t even realize you’re doing.

My goal is always to create photos that feel comfortable, genuine, and effortless… not overly posed or forced. 🤍
