30 minutes, fresh out of the womb, the nurses placed you on my chest and I felt my body let out a sigh that came out as, “MY BABY”.
You were beyond what I once thought was perfect. When you began to nurse I remember thinking, “this.. this is why mothers do it.” It all clicked in that moment. The swollen feet, the back pain, the awkward waddle, the contractions and all the other super unglamorous parts of motherhood. We do it for those moments that are so precious, they’re often indescribable.
Like have you ever tried to tell a story of something that happened but it seemed too surreal? And you struggled to adequately describe the moment, so you end it with.. “you just had to be there.”
That’s what I think motherhood, birth and nursing is like. And maybe words alone aren’t meant to preserve those beautiful moments, maybe, just maybe, you were meant to preserve the moments through images that you can hold on to forever. Images that evoke true emotion.
You deserve that, mama.
