Life is beautiful. The time between birth and death is a long road, filled with surprises, laughter, and friendship. But life is also hard. Full of difficult things like grief, loss, and struggle. All of these things are human. All of these things help us grow, help us change and shape us into the person we currently are.
Kim and Louis are a very special pair. I met them a little over a year ago when Kim made a post in our barn page, looking for someone to show her the trails at our beautiful barn.
I immediately became fast friends with Kim. We seemed to connect on a level not many others do. Although, this may be a common theme with Kim. Kim and Louis have a very special bond.
After Kim moving across the country for a job, Louis fighting through EPM, and moving barns, Louis and Kim ended up at our barn. Louis is now blind due to EPM and struggles with severe arthritis. This doesn't stop him from loving with his whole heart, though. He is genuinely one of the most trusting and loving horses I have ever had the pleasure to know, but this wasn't always the case. When Kim first started working with him, he had behavioral issues. With Kim's time, patience, and training, Louis is now the sweet old man he is.
Unfortunately, Louis is being put down August 8th. He will be very sorely missed by our wonderful barn community, but especially by Kim and I, as well as his main caretaker, Mike. I cannot imagine the hole he will leave in all of our hearts. I don't think l'll be able to have a Belvita or donut without thinking of this goofy guy. I am BEYOND honored to have been able to catch just a glimpse of this extraordinary partnership.
Run free Louis, maybe you and Nick will meet and become friends just like Kim and I did. Thank you for showing Kim and I what unconditional love looks like. 🌈🪽
