Throwback Thursday Part 2!

These LA shoots were always special to me as it allowed me to fly out, do some amazing work, meet a ton of very creative people and get to spend a couple of days visiting my brother and his young family. It was a perfect blend of awesomeness and I was always grateful for the opportunity.

This shoot was made extra fun as Dave and Michele came out as part of the Rayovac team and they always made the trips upbeat and high energy. Plus this was the second opportunity we had to work with Nic and his agency on this campaign and the set they built in their studio was perfect for these lower production social add ons. We were able to shoot interiors and green screen without having to strike and set up a bunch of gear so we were able to be super efficient with the days. Add in getting to work with Dave Theune again and this was the perfect way to enjoy a day in LA!

It's time for a Throwback Thursday!

This shoot was such a blast from the kick ass creative to the great talent we had on set! I was super fortunate to work with Dave Theune before he started getting big roles in St. Denis Medical, the NFL Pregame Show, and I am not Okay with This. He was such a talented improvisor and had the crew cracking up all day. I'm so glad to see the success he's been having because no one deserves it more! We also had Jaime Gaul Cullen play his wife and the two of them gave us so many good takes that it was painful to have to cut some of them (which is a good problem to have).

On a personal note, it was fun to fly out to LA with the Rayovac team and get to influence how the campaign was created. This shoot was specifically pick ups for an extension to our "Should have went with Rayovac" campaign designed for social. These were titled "In Tents with Tim" where we got to see our lovable Tim go through a mid-life crisis by becoming a wilderness expert (in the comfort of his suburban garage of course) supported by his loving, and VERY patient wife.

I honestly have so many great memories from this shoot that I need to put out a Part 2 soon!

Last month’s shoot in Columbus was all about great people and real stories. I teamed up with Jeff Whitcomb to capture employee interviews with some truly incredible staff at a health & rehab facility and they definitely made our job easy. So many genuine, passionate people doing meaningful work every day.

Also proof that the best interviews usually come with a mix of good lighting, good conversations… and a few laughs in between takes

I was able to capture some great BTS and couldn't wait to share!

Teamed up with Rob from Tack Video at the 5P Showcase Expo last month and somehow managed to turn a busy expo floor into a full-on interview studio in the casino hallway!

This one was a tricky set up trying to make a 2 cam shoot work with a giant mirror reflecting everything back at us from the end of the hallway. Luckily all my geometry lessons paid off and we were able to find all the right angles! Lots of great convos, quick turnarounds, and a solid reminder that a good crew makes everything smoother, even when you’re chasing quiet audio with a line full of people...

Had a blast on set with Tommy and Jess creating GMS’s Q4 update video plus some of their 2026 marketing content!

This studio shoot came together beautifully with full lighting by Green Light Grip + Electric, and as always, the BTS moments were just as fun as the final takes! I just had to share a few behind-the-scenes shots. It’s incredibly rewarding to work with such cutting-edge software and to see how much progress the GMS team has made over the past year. Truly a terrific client and an awesome crew to collaborate with.

I really enjoyed attending Madison Media Professionals’ Editing Strategies presentation at Kingdom Filmworks last month. It was a great deep dive into the creative decisions and techniques behind award-winning work. Plus, it's always inspiring to hear directly from the editors and filmmakers shaping standout projects.

Huge thanks to Mike Palzkill, Kyle Stoffel, Bonnie Willison, and Nathan Stevens for sharing their processes, insights, and lessons learned. Events like this are a great reminder that strong editing isn’t just technical... it’s storytelling, pacing, and intentional design.

What’s one editing technique that instantly elevates a video for you?

Earlier this month I was contracted to create 3D animation videos for Daniel Defense. Showcasing their new suppressors, Mute and Null, the videos debuted at their booth for SHOT Show in Las Vegas.

These fully 3D-printed suppressors, manufactured at their facility in Black Creek, GA, are a great example of how cutting-edge engineering and thoughtful design come together. It was a pleasure collaborating closely with their marketing team to ensure the animation stayed consistent with the overall campaign look, feel, and messaging, helping to create a seamless brand experience across all their content.

I love getting a chance to flex different creative muscles and incorporate animation when I can. How do you think 3D animation changes the way audiences understand complex products?

Earlier this fall, I shared some behind-the-scenes moments from this shoot and now the final piece is out to the world! It was such an honor to collaborate with Gilda’s Club Madison, 6AM Marketing, and Jess MacLeod at Green Light Grip & Electric on a project with so much heart.

Gilda’s Club does incredible work providing free emotional support, education, and hope for anyone affected by cancer. Their mission reminds us that no one should face cancer alone and being part of a campaign that amplifies that message was something truly special.

Huge thanks to everyone involved for the creativity, collaboration, and good energy that made this production such a joy to work on.
