Only took a couple hundred shots to get a few in focus and one was perched on a feeder. There were several swarming this evening. I had to look it up, because I love useless knowledge… BUT, I was curious why there were so many out? Turns out, the first two weeks of September is the beginning of migration for hummingbirds. There will be a lot of them in our area looking to fuel up for their long journeys back to Central America for the winter months. I had no idea… but now I do, and so do you!

Madison Cubs Soccer Program hosted Salem yesterday at Cub Field. I was only able to stay for a few minutes, but Madison was already in complete control and winning 3-0. The Cubs would go onto win the contest 9-0, putting them at 3-2 on the season.

Madison’s girls also disposed of Salem in quick fashion, dominating another MSC opponent 10-0.

Here’s some shots from the boys yesterday.

The Madison Football Program traveled to Jennings County last night for their annual Battle of the Railroad rivalry game. Madison jumped all over the Panthers and never looked back, defeating Jennings by a score of 42-6.

The Cubs were led by Mr. Do it ALL, Izik Roberts, who flirted with the schools single game scoring record by finding the end zone four times! Roberts also delivered some big hits on the defensive side of the ball. Brody Copeland had a rushing score and threw for a pair of touchdowns, including one to his brother, Bryson Copeland… who reminded everyone that “they can’t cover me” every opportunity he had last night. Madison’s Segar Ralston also contributed on both sides of the ball, laying the hit stick on several occasions.

The Cubs defense only allowed one score by the Panthers on what appeared to be a blown assignment in the secondary. Madison’s defense looked good last night. There were a lot of guys that contributed on that side of the ball. Grayson Hughes was constantly taking on double teams and still finding ways to wreak havoc. Garret Deuser came back for his junior season and he was an impact player as a freshman two years ago, so getting him back was huge. He was definitely missed last year. Kyair Barker also played well, getting after the ball. Again, they played really sound, team defense.

Here’s part one from the game last night at Jennings County.

Heading up to Jennings County this evening for the Railroad Rivalry game between the Panthers and the Cubs. Jennings leads the all time series with 30 wins to Madison’s 28. Should be a great game, so come on out! The game is scheduled to kickoff at 7pm.

The Lady Bears took one on the chin last night, when they traveled down to Highland Hills. Madison fell by a score of 10-1, but some of the parents decided that we had a couple of nice attempts, so we awarded them two points! Kidding aside, Highland Hills is a very good team and you can tell that many of them are specializing in soccer at a much younger age and that’s the big difference. The Lady Bears are off for the rest of the week, but the 5th and 6th grade will be scrimmaging against Southwestern this Thursday.
