You've had the ring for weeks or months!

You've run through the moment in your head approximately a hundred times. The location, ghe words, the look on their face when they realize what's happening.

And somewhere in all of that planning, you started wondering — should someone be there to actually capture this?

The answer is yes. But how you pull it off matters just as much as the moment itself.

Here's what we've learned after photographing proposals all over:

🦕 The cover story has to feel effortless.

A casual walk. A detour to a spot you both love. The less it feels like a production, the more the moment feels real — and real is exactly what you want on camera.

🦕 The location should feel like the two of you.

Not just beautiful. Yours. Maybe it's Olbrich in late afternoon light when the garden goes golden and quiet. Maybe it's the shoreline at Picnic Point, and the water goes still. Maybe it's somewhere only the two of you would understand. That's the one.

🦕 The best thing you can do is let go.

Over-coordinating shows. Trust the moment. Trust the person you're with. Your one job that day is getting them to the spot — everything else takes care of itself.

What happens after the yes? That's an hour of pure joy. The laughing, the crying, the calling your families, the I can't believe this is real. We stay for all of it!

This is one of the best moments of your life.

The person proposing almost never actually sees their partner's reaction. Your heart's pounding, your eyes are on the ring, and the whole thing happens in about thirty seconds. That's exactly why we exist.

We show up as ninja photographers: a couple on a walk, someone on a bench, a tourist on their phone, and we capture the moment you'll want to see for the rest of your life.

This post starts with a little cautionary tale…why it’s important where you print your photos?

My sister went to Walgreens to get her wedding photos printed. And upon her opening the envelope, she discovered a stack of blurry photos. The files weren’t blurry, and they even looked good on the ordering screen. It was the printer that did this as they weren’t quality checked before she paid.

After going back and explaining her disappointment, they encouraged her to reprint them. And what do you know, the same thing happened. The staff wasn’t sorry. They didn’t refund her money. She was left with crappy prints and out hundreds of dollars.

When you purchase prints directly from your photographer, they go through your photographer’s lab where prints are checked before they’re sent out AND double-checked by the photographer before they’re sent to you. This means your photos are guaranteed. Fortunately, my sister ended up printing them through my lab with no problems.

It may feel like you’re saving a buck to go the photo counter route, but you’re likely wasting your money. Go for quality – your memories deserve it!

Married inside one of the most stunning buildings in Wisconsin. A judge, their closest people, marble floors, arched ceilings — and zero seating charts.

Ida & Reuben knew exactly what they wanted: something real, something beautiful, and space to actually be present on their wedding day. So they eloped at the Wisconsin State Capitol — and honestly? It delivered.

Ceremony in the rotunda. Portraits on the Capitol steps. A stop through Allen Centennial Gardens. And rooftop cocktails at Eno Vino with the dome in the background.
