Totem Pole, Autumn Morning: It's been 21 years, but I still remember the chilly October morning I made this photo of the Totem Pole formation in Monument Valley. I made it with my first digital SLR, which had less resolution than my current phone! Fortunately I shot it with a sharp Minolta lens, and today's imaging software allowed me to remaster it and now offer "Totem Pole, Autumn Morning" as a 16x20 or larger print.

One more from my Bold Journey Magazine interview — this time about how it all started.

I actually began as a painter, drawn to the Impressionists and plein air painting in local parks during high school and college. But chasing the ever-changing light made it hard for me to finish a painting in one sitting, so I started photographing the scenes instead—and somewhere along the way I realized I loved capturing those moments with a camera even more than painting them.

In 2004, I formed Quiet Heart Images and started doing art shows and craft fairs around New Jersey. Getting to connect with people in person and learn what moves them has been one of the most rewarding parts of this whole journey. I'm still at it—exploring new places, releasing new galleries, and forming new partnerships and collaborations.
