"Blistery winds, frozen shores, and the iconic Ludington lighthouse—winter doesn’t get more cinematic than this."

🌬️ “Blistering January temperature, frozen Lake Michigan, and one iconic lighthouse. Winter vibes only.”

The Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse, built in 1927, is a historic landmark in Manistee, Michigan, known for its distinctive cast-iron tower and catwalk, serving as a symbol of safety for boaters and a popular photo spot on Lake Michigan. It replaced an earlier light, was electrified in 1925, and is now maintained by the Manistee County Historical Museum after being transferred to the City of Manistee in 2011.

The Frankfort North Pier Head is one of the younger Lighthouses that can be visited in Michigan. It was built in 1912 and is, in a way, one of the more basic modern looking lighthouses as it lacks living quarters and is placed out in Lake Michigan. It is accessible via a walkabout breakwall to provide visitors the opportunity to stretch their legs and enjoy a nice walk especially during gorgeous sunsets over the this amazing Great lake!

Frankfort Michigan is a beautiful city, full of charm, located in Northern Michigan. This channel feeds the Bestie Bay! Great place for looking for pieces of slag glass due to the shipping history with the old Bay Furnace located on the Elmira Michigan side of the Betsie Bay!

The Ludington State Park Beach House along Lake Michigan was built by the CCC in 1935. The bricks were salvaged from local salt mill and used local timber. Ludington area has a history for both industries! It is stunning in its design, but what makes it most special is the memories it contains.

Oh how many times families gathered here together for a time of swimming or simply enjoying the sunsets over Lake Michigan. If only the walls could speak of all of the years of pass, as it is now 90 years old.

I know for me, this place contains so many memories including beach days that included my Grandparents, My Dad and my Sister, who have now all passed on. This is such a special place for me.

The Hamlin Dam in Ludington State Park, Michigan, controls water levels between Hamlin Lake and the Big Sable River, allowing for recreation and managing river flow, with specific seasonal operations like lowering the lake for winter. Historically, earlier wooden dams collapsed, flooding the area, leading to the current structure integrated into the park, serving as a key spot for fishing (salmon, trout) and paddling, while also managing the lake's connection to Lake Michigan.

Whenever I go through Parkdale, part of Manistee Michigan, I like to stop in and buy a Stromboli and Pizza at Big Al's. They have so many delicious options. What is your favorite pizza?

This page was previously for my homesteading, but I have decided to officially begin my own small business that will be offering photography of Northern Michigan as I am now a Part 107 certified drone operator.
