INCLUDE YOUR FUR BABIES IN YOUR PHOTOS 🐶

With heavy hearts, we had to lay our sweet pup, Terra, to rest last week at 3.5 years young. She was finally overtaken by CKD (Canine Kidney Disease). She was diagnosed with at just 4 months and I still remember mourning the day I found out the puppy I had only had for 2 months could leave us sooner than later. Now I am mourning again today that she has actually left us. I am at peace knowing we gave her a good, full life by welcoming and accepting all of her health issues and what that would require from us.

I am forever grateful for all of these precious memories we have of her in photos with us. I am thankful to all of my sweet photographer friends who graciously encouraged us to include her in each of our milestone shoots. Having your pets join in on your photos can be extra work, but the rewards are 💯 worth it. The first photo you see above is one of our last family photos taken together after Pearl was born back in September, and to be honest, I almost didn’t have this photo taken. The newborn phase is exhausting, as is prepping yourself, family, and house for a newborn photo session. After rocking a newborn to sleep and corralling a toddler in photos, I didn’t really feel like trying to get our pup to cooperate.

Terra has been in our current home basically since the beginning, just 5 months after we moved in, through our crazy house renovations and on our xmas card since 2018. She has been with me through some of my biggest life changes, like becoming a mother, and was the first to hear that I was pregnant with Penny.

She was a sweet, stubborn, and goofy pup who had more friends in our neighborhood than we do. She was our first baby and a true big sister to our firstborn, Penny. They shared jealousy, roughhousing, and love. Penny loved her Puppy, would hug her goodnight every night before bed, and is the reason she loves all dogs. Telling our 2 year old that our puppy was very sick and not coming home hurts.

This week our home has felt a little emptier, but my heart remains full with all of these wonderful memories.

This year marks my 11th year in business as a photographer. 🤯 While my photography career is rooted in wedding photography, my degree is in business marketing + entrepreneurial studies, and have always had a knack for branding. I am so excited to have merged my two greatest passions, photography & branding, in order to help other small business owners thrive.

Capturing professional headshots, lifestyle, & product photography for small businesses has become a favorite offering of mine. Nothing fuels my creative fire more than helping other business owners reach their ideal clientele via compelling imagery that truly represents their brand.

I wouldn’t be where I am today without all the amazing mentors I have had along the way, which is why I am thrilled to announce that I am teaming up with Maizie Clarke ( / ), Hannah Schiller (), and Allie Martin () for a 1-day brand workshop where you’ll learn from our combined 20 years of experience!!

At this 1 day, in-person workshop, you will:

This past weekend marked one month with our newborn Pearl Louise and the closing of our 2021 wedding season. In the past 6 weeks our team has had 6 weddings (four of those added on our video services). This includes one wedding I shot at 39 weeks pregnant and another my husband Kevin was shooting video for while I was laboring at home. (a crazy birth story I may have to share one day) To top it off, I also landed my first magazine cover with for their Fall issue that came out this month. 🤯

What a whirlwind.

It's hard to imagine what the rest of this year would have looked like if I hadn't closed bookings for the rest of 2021 as soon as I found I was pregnant. This year is flooded with crazy covid reschedules + new anxious brides ready to tie-the-knot. I turned away A LOT of business throughout this year to be sure I could maintain sanity once our babe came. As hard as that was (on my heart and wallet), it was the best decision I could have made for my mental health & fam.

Now that the coordinating, prepping, and shooting is finished, I take a short sigh of relief as I head to shifting my focus to editing all of the photos + video from the past 6 weeks, as well as continuing to book weddings + additional work for 2022. If you need my services, I’ll be ready for ya in 2022. 😘

I'm forever grateful for all of my associates + industry friends that stepped in to help me during their own busiest season. As well as my INCREDIBLY SWEET & SUPPORTIVE CLIENTS who didn’t hesitate to fully trust in my plans + backup plans during my unpredictable season of birth that coincided with my busiest time of year for work. So so grateful to still be a part of each of their days.

I’ve had a few people tell me I’m a “rockstar” and the truth is I am far from it. Just a sleep deprived mama working her butt off without a true maternity leave accepting ALL the help she can get from co-workers, friends, and family to make s**t happen. I’ve had more help with business + personal life than I ever have and an incredible husband working his b***y off so I can sneak away to work during my few and far between newborn life breaks.

Now excuse me while I go cuddle my newborn.

There is no doubt that I can’t wait for spring to officially hit for pretty backdrops full of blooms & blossoms. However, life can’t always wait for the next season, which is why I make sure to pick the best location for your photo session no matter what the season. Baby bumps, newborns, quickly growing kiddos, and even seasons of engagement can be short and fleeting, it’s important to document each stage of life no matter what the seasonal weather might be.
