Edward Grad Art

Edward Grad Art My art is about transforming everyday places and objects into visual stories. Capturing mood and lighting is essential, I love experimenting with
textures too.

I aim to show people what I see—how history and the present blend to create a new narrative.

Took this during my after-midnight walk along Wilshire Boulevard in Downtown Los Angeles. Quiet time—peaceful, inspiring.
I always notice this massive, dark neon sign on the rooftop of The Commodore Hotel, a late Beaux-Arts gem built in 1923. It’s one of the largest rooftop signs in LA, but it hasn’t had the chance to glow for over half a century—the neon tubes were removed in the '70s.
Still, it stands tall in silence.
I hope one day it lights up again. Photo © Edward Grad

Exploring the craftsmanship of Los Angeles' porcelain 'Shotgun' street signs. It’s cool to see the variations in porcelain color coating on these signs. Comparing three signs that I own: Vine St. (1940s), Pico Blvd. (1940s), and Cahuenga Blvd. (1950s). They stopped making these signs in 1962. I'm currently working on a new painting series with these signs. Photos © Edward Grad

It was wonderful to meet renowned LA artist Alex Israel at Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills during his Noir exhibition. Always a great experience at Gagosian —such an incredible opportunity to meet a blue-chip artist in person and discuss his work. All images © Edward Grad #
