[‘Tis The Season] For New Holiday Traditions

"Believe it or not, but having a “Day of Thanks” transmutes almost all cultural walls, and essentially time itself; you can find an ode to it in essentially every ancient culture. The Egyptians celebrated Min while the Chinese held holiday for Chung Ch’ui; the Israelites celebrated Sukkot, the Babylonians worshiped Marduk and the Persians had Mirthas; the Romans had Cerelia while the Greeks honored Demeter and Celtic Pagans took to Mabon. Each of these civilizations had a day designated as a Fall Harvest Feast where they would tend to the end of their crop season, and enjoy the bounty in communal celebration."

[LA Life] Adventure Along the Angeles Crest Scenic Highway

"There’s something absolutely sacred about the way a car hugs a tight turn along a scenic cruise, whipping the soul around to enjoy a palpable, panoramic landscape in a heartbeat; albeit I think the windows should be down and music up to take full advantage of the moment – but who am I to tell another soul how to enjoy a leisurely, weekend drive."

The drive up the Angeles Crest Highway is right up there with Zion National Park, Big Sur, California and cruising through the Oregon Coast - what's your favorite drive?

Mother’s Day Weekend is a special weekend, a fruitful time for family and a fitting occasion to embrace the divine feminine, and within that – our true Mother – Earth, Nature, Gai…

[Self Discovery] What’s Your Lucky Number?

Though many modern cultures shudder at the idea of the number 13, historically it's been a sign of the divine feminine, with 13 moon cycles a year. What's your lucky number?

Numbers entwine into and extrapolate patterns as the building blocks of life; from the formation of universe and spiral galaxy arms of our Milky Way down to the cellular structures of every being i…

Did you know that on average, humans are deceptive in 25% of their interactions. Honestly -how do you stack up?

Lies.  Big or small, white or monstrous – we’ve all told them, and to believe the contrary would be – you guessed it – a lie. According to a recent study, we lie in 25% of o…

[Get Political] Be The Change You Want to See In The World

The last 48 hours have been a lot to digest in the scope of American politics. I took to the blog to try and rationalize my own thoughts and welcome any of yours. Let's continue the hearty dialogue and discussion, personally - I welcome it :)

"For the next two years we’ll be dealing with a Republican Senate, a Republican House and an anti-establishment President who caters to the conservatives that will be electing justices to our Supreme Court. Meaning – we have two years to get our s**t together as progressives; two years to undo all of the undoing that is about to occur. Two years until the next midterm elections and four until the next presidential cycle. As a minority, a female of color who will eventually raise a child that is also a minority, this country makes me nervous. As someone who wants to have a family in the next four years, I’m beside myself at the social climate and culture I will be raising them in. But I refuse to be anything but hopeful…adversity creates strength and resolution, and this election has sent a powerful message."

Throughout my childhood, it was implored on me that there are three things you don’t discuss with strangers: s*x, politics, and religion. I don’t know about you guys, but those are thr…

"Since its inception, has been an artistic catalyst where personal growth and spiritual renewal unfold infinitely into themselves. Senses stream towards overload as colors dance in time with elaborate harmonies emanating from every corner of the fields. The weekend celebrates much more than musical talent and artistic prowess; it’s the reunion and synergy of souls energized by the sunshine and their dancing feet; it’s the church where we revere our minuscule yet infinite place on this rock that’s spinning through space while we’re born again through the bass; it’s the home away from home where we feel so very safe, and so very loved...."

[Self Discovery] Marinate In Your Mindfulness

"As I’ve reveled in recent experiences, both on a personal level and a global level, I’ve recognized the need in myself to be mindful – to be aware of the present moment, less anxious about the past and unfazed by future worries. When you truly wrap your head around the ephemeral nature of life, you’ll realize how many moments you’ve wasted by mentally occupying other temporal space. Though daydreaming is nice every once in a while, the perpetual wish to be in another place, have another job, or be surrounded by different people constantly disengages the mind from your current reality, taking you out of the actual moment at hand....."

Mindfulness is a simple recognition that there is something greater than us that dwells within each and every conscious being. There’s a light that we all carry inside our hearts, a light th…

[Oh, Snap] Chasing Sunset at Malibu's Point Dume

"Love. It’s a simple four letter word with a complex, vast and almost unfathomable meaning. Love takes you by the arm securely and leads you to safety, while encouraging you to blast out of your own comfort zone and reach for the stars. Love isn’t only giving, it’s forgiving; the last piece of the puzzle of a beautiful picture, a picture that was once so inconceivably incomplete. Love fills your life in time with your heart, warming each and every nook and corner; clearing out the cobwebs of the ego, unchaining your pride and letting your soul shine free. Love is natural, like the sun, wind, water and Earth; yet love is extraordinary, like the existence of the universe, like the rose that grew from concrete, like the existence of you, or I – or the simple fact that between you and I, there’s a we that is coveted more than the deepest secrets and oldest friendships. Love is a bridge from nowhere to everywhere, a door that opens infinitely and a dream that’s never deferred. But the most beautiful thing of all is that love is."

[Oh, Snap] A Quiet Corvallis Morning

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms.”
― Henry David Thoreau, Walden: Or, Life in the Woods

[Self Discovery] The Sanctuary of Sound

"Every once in a while, we need an outstretched hand and warm smile, a delightful emotional sprinkling of honest goodness; as people we need to be wanted – as blooming entities, we need to be watered. Yet, we often forget that in order to maintain fulfilling external relationships, we have to be in tune with ourselves, we have to tune and play to our own resonant frequency without being drowned out by the chorus of noise around us."

"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the p...

[Oh, Snap] Weekend Wanderlust Along California's Coastline

"When life seems overwhelming and bubbling over, it’s important to take some personal time and marinate in the purity of the moment. Whether its work or social life, the cure for emotional chaos and calamity is the warmth of the wilderness and the nurture of nature."

If you're ever looking to get away for the weekend in California, look no further than the historic Pacific Coast Highway - but don't forget to stop and smell the roses and enjoy the journey! From stunning views to tide pool hopping and marine wildlife, there's a little bit of something for everyone.
