**To most people, it was just another soft Panama City Beach sunset.**
**To Brittney Roberts, it felt like her children were reaching down to hold her.**
Only two weeks ago, her 15-year-old son Will left this earth.
The family came to the beach simply to breathe — to sit in the salt air and try to survive the silence he left behind. Then the sky began to burn with color, and Brittney felt her heart crack open all over again. That sunset carried Will… and the tiny sister he never got to grow up with. Thirteen years earlier, they had already said goodbye to 68-day-old Darby Kate.
In the quiet of that evening, Brittney wrote:
“Thank you, God, for this beautiful sunset. Jason and Granny walked over to capture it while Charlie and I were completely exhausted after a day in the sun.
It’s just a reminder that Will is everywhere we are. He loved chasing sunrises and sunsets so deeply… Now he and Darby Kate are painting the most breathtaking skies for us together.
From the time Will was only two, I always told him that Darby Kate was painting pictures in the sky to remind us where she is… and from that day forward, he fell in love with every beautiful sky. Now he has gone to her. Together they keep painting, so we can still feel him wherever we stand.
God, please give me strength to loosen the anxious grip of fear that comes from having only one of Your blessings left with me on this earth. The terror of losing my last baby is something I carry every single day. Wrap her tight. Protect her. She is literally our entire world now.”
There are no words deep enough for a mother who has buried two children.
There is only a hollow place in the chest that never fully fills.
And the quiet, constant dread Brittney feels for her remaining daughter, Charlie, is a pain only those who have already lost can truly understand.
May every gentle word left here become a soft place for this family to rest.
May Jason and Brittney keep finding their boy and their baby girl in every evening sky.
And may little Charlie grow up wrapped in the fiercest, most tender love — the love of a mother who already knows how easily the most precious lights can be taken.
Please leave them your kindest words today.
Their hearts are so heavy.
They need to feel that they are not carrying this alone.
