Over the course of my photographic career, I have had the pleasure of working with some wonderful and talented people. I have enjoyed most of my experiences in photography. However, none of those experiences compares to my experience yesterday. While I am mostly a portrait photographer, I do some event photography from time to time. Yesterday, I was hired by Your Grateful Nation (“YGN”) to photograph two different events for them. YGN’s mission is to help retired Special Forces operators transition from military to civilian life.
The first event was a luncheon discussing the big geo-political threats facing the US. The speaker is a retired Commander from Navy Seal Team VI who has briefed the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other very important people in our Government. During the course of the lecture, there was Q&A from the audience, some of which were former Special Forces operators including a former Lt. General in the Army Special Forces; in short, some very serious people. Although I was working and not paying close attention to what was being said, I did manage to learn a few things.
The next assignment was a cocktail reception and speaking event to help raise money for YGN. The two main guests of honor speaking were former baseball manager Tony La Russa and Rob O'Neill, the navy Seal who killed Osama bin Laden (“OBL”). Let’s just say Rob is a gifted public speaker. He talked about his Seal training and gave some funny stories about it. He also spoke about the OBL mission and gave the audience insight to what actually happened that no press release or movie could give. Overall, Rob’s speech was very informative and entertaining.
After the event was over, I was fortunate enough have my photo taken with Rob and another with Tony. Overall, it was a pretty good day at the office.
Please check out YGN, they are a very worthy cause.
