Bio:

Matt is a life-long photographer who began astrophotography in 2012. During the last decade, he has completed a 7 year project in Orion (see link), photographed an ISS Solar transit, the 2017 Solar Eclipse, and multiple Lunar Eclipses. In addition to his daily fascination with our Star (visible here: http://www.spaceforeverybody.com/SolarContinuum ), Matt manages a telescope in the Marathon Sky Park and Observatory in Marathon Texas. To see more of Matt's work, check out his astronomy blog where he pursues his goal of becoming a Master Observer through the Astronomical League, occasionally reviews hardware, and attempts understanding through public discourse. While Matt isn't looking through a telescope, he also enjoys traveling with his wife Katie of 23 years, and watching Star Trek with his dog- Maggie.

Woodland Hills Camera and Telescopes along with Kurt Kimbrell would love to share with you a paradise for astronomers, astrophotographers and those who love the stars.

Out here in a small town of Marathon Tx, just north of Big Bend National Park is the Marathon Motel and RV park.


It features bortle 1 skies, rooms to stay in, a remote observatory, and so much more!

Visitors enjoy the sky park and all the good eats around town.
Calm and serene. The people are most hospitable.
Star parties are every night, however the biggest ones are held twice a year, during the summer and the winter.

We got to enjoy their Marathon Summer Star Party and it was full of knowledge of the cosmos and wonderful people. Bill Ramey gave a nightsky tour to all the guests with his 24" dobsonian and they even have some big solar projects to share wtih the guests coming soon.

We got to meet with the owner Danny Self as we heard his dreams and visions of bringing the stars to everyone whilst cutting down on light pollution. Danny Self is a big fan of telescopes.net, and what we do to get everyones Astro needs to be taken care of.

We even got to meet with Astrophotographers Dennis Sprinkle and Matt Harbison as they discussed current projects and plans with themselves, the Astro community and helping educate all about the night sky including with todays youth.

Take a look at the images as this is just but a small sample of the place, the sky and the Marathon Remote Imaging Observatory.

We highly recommend after you get your astro gear with us that you give this place a visit.

"My name is Amanda Gilbert and I do most of my astro imaging from my home near downtown San Diego. My journey into astrophotography truly began in 2014 when I imaged a lunar eclipse through a small telescope using my iPhone. From there I began photographing star trails and, later, Milky Way nightscapes. What I love most about astrophotography is the sense of connection I feel to the mystery of the universe and our place within it.

Introducing deep sky Astrophotographer Brent Newton!

Brent:

My name is Brent Newton and I've been an Astrophotographer since 2015. I was living in a small town with appreciably dark skies, so out of curiosity as much as anything else I bought an 8" SCT. I experienced a form of frustration in being unable to share what I could see and my goals quickly changed from visual astronomy to photography. Within a year I had progressed from taking rudimentary planetary photos in the early mornings of deep winter to making my first attempts at capturing Deep Sky Objects with a 450D and CG5 Equatorial mount, and from there I have periodically but unrelentingly added more capability and quality to my rig. These days most of my targets are shot across several nights and dozens of hours of integration. I also host my shots on Astronewton.com and occasionally hang prints of my work around local galleries. I enjoy Astrophotography because of the technical challenge, it encourages an appreciation of nature, and is periodically a humbling experience.

What can the William Optics Redcat 61 do for you?
A picture is worth a thousand words!

This image shot by Kurt Kimbrell shows the potential of what you can accomplish with this amazing new scope that was introduced this year.

Object: Lagoon and Trifid nebula in Sagitarius.

But what else?
The internal focuser design helps mitigate tilt on the telescopes aspect as rather than a draw tube moving
in and out causing sag, its focuser moves the lens element back and forth inside the scope.

Not to mention this is a petzval so you have flatfield right out of the box and no need to worry about fine tuning your back spacing so that you can get to collecting space photons right away.
