My 115th Photographic Post of the New Year
“Image 115“

Alright, it’s not technically a photograph…..though it is. As I’ve mentioned before, sketching is one of my latest obsessions. This was initially meant to be a portrait of Cillian Murphy, but I think it ended up looking a little more like myself, though not intentionally. I love cross-hatching, though it still mystifies me. There is nothing natural about the human head. Thanks for stopping by.

My 113th Photographic Post of the New Year
“Image 113“

I have a new side obsession. It involves portraits, extremely fine pointed pens, and cross-hatching. Why cross-hatching? Well, because talented artists can draw lifelike portraits without shading through the use of pencils or paint. The idea of shading via the use of very fine ink lines intrigues me. In regards to the bigger picture, I’ve always been fascinated by artists who can sketch in perspective. Much like reading music, the idea has always baffled me. While I am still in the infancy stage of learning the art, I was pleasantly surprised that the drawing does not resemble anything I’ve done in the past. That is to say, I don’t recognize the work, which I think is a good thing. Thanks for stopping by.

“Image 111”

Just another day in Los Angeles! Just another very, very hot day in Los Angeles. This police vehicle pulled up alongside us as the girls and I sat frozen in traffic on Ventura Boulevard. It felt like we were in a Tom Petty video. My eldest asked me to open the window so she could grab the police vehicle. I explained to her that it was there for everyone’s enjoyment. Just another day in Los Angeles. Just another blistering, sweaty day in Los Angeles. Thanks for stopping by.

My 110th Photographic Post of the New Year
“Camp image, 110“

It is one of my favorite places on this here Earth….the Jardin du Luxembourg. We lived a stone’s throw away for a year when I was a kid. We resided in Emily‘s apartment building before Emily was even born! I would push a toy boat around in the fountain and eat a crêpe while sitting in one of the countless green metal chairs. Many years later I would carve my fiancée‘s name in snow on one of the benches the day after I proposed to her in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. Just last week we had our girls pushing boats in the same fountain. The park holds a special place in my heart. Thanks for stopping by.

We did it! We finally went back to a movie theatre! I’ve always been fascinated by the history of World War II, so we naturally had to see “Barbie.“ Damn, I went into the wrong theater! Actually, I saw the film with my nine girl besties! It was basically a block party at the movie theater. I had no idea what to expect, but my daughters have been bugging us about seeing the film since they saw the posters in Paris. Though my seven-year-old was presumably not the intended audience for the film, all the young kids in the theatre had a blast. It is so much fun being the only guy most of the time! Many of the moviegoers dressed up in the spirit of the film, so it only makes sense that I photographed the reflection of the popcorn on the floor in the lobby. Thank you for stopping by.

“Image 108“

On the last day of our odyssey, we thought we would go out with a bang. Well, at least we wanted to make a good lasting impression on the kids. So, we are off to the fun fair at the Jardins Tuileries. The Louvre was closed, but I knew the kids would want to see the Pyramid. We then ended the trip with an evening listening to a jazz band underground. What a voyage! Thanks for stopping by.

“Image 107“

I haven’t been to the Eiffel Tower since I proposed to my wife. The line was much too long to ascend the tower that day, so I proposed in the gardens surrounding the tower. She said yes, thank goodness. So, yesterday I went with my wife, daughters, sister, and niece, to the top! It truly is a marvel, especially when they flash the lights every hour after dusk. I experimented with some long exposures, as well as some camera motion. The standard images started looking rather banal after I started playing around. Thanks for stopping by.

My 106th Photographic Post of the New Year
“Image 106”

We have moved on to our fifth and final country of this odyssey. After taking three unforeseeable additional train rides, we made it to Paris. The wife and I had nearly two full days alone, sans children, thanks to my sister and niece. It was an amazing belated birthday gift for my wife, and we were able to celebrate Bastille Day in the capital city with millions of our friends. The first image was a long hour train ride into France. The others were taken on Bastille Day. Thank you for having a look.

My 105th Photographic Post of the New Year “Wurstelprater”

We took our children to the famous amusement park in Vienna as a thank you for enduring all the hours and miles of trekking along our European trip. While the day did involve us having to endure the presence of two of the worst people I’ve ever met, we all had a lovely time. The kids got to bounce on trampolines, and I unknowingly tortured them as we awaited our turn in line for the famous Riesenrad ferris wheel. Who knew that the lobby/holding cell would be stifling hot with no air conditioning and no way to acquire water or to access a restroom? After surviving more than an hour in the stifling heat, I photographed a small model of the ferris wheel, and also shot it from one of the cars and from a distance. Thanks for stopping by.

My 104th Photographic Post of the New Year
“Image 104“

When I think of Vienna, two things come to mind. First of all, it is the birthplace of my father. Secondly, it is the location and an important character in the film, “The Third Man.“ In the film, Harry Lime (played by Orson Welles), is being pursued by an old friend, played by Joseph Cotton. In the climax of the film, Welles is chased through the sewers of post-war Vienna. This is why my 10-year-old daughter and I took a tour through the sewers yesterday. It was a pleasure, and we were able to view where they actually filmed the 1949 movie. It did not smell as bad as one might assume, and they say you can smell beer and chocolate during the holidays. Thanks for stopping by.

“Hvala, Croatia”

It was bittersweet as we said farewell to Croatia. As we prepared to continue our travels, I captured a few last images along the way. Thanks for having a look.
