One of the most fun video project that I've shot with Julian.
Anthony flew 3 helicopters out in order for his epic plan to work--one helicopter for his family, one helicopter for me so I can wait for their arrival, and the third helicopter for the gender reveal powder.

P.S. the entirety of the powder is food-grade biodegradable stuff that can be used as fertilizers and no animals/ plants were harmed.

Anthony planned this epic helicopter gender reveal for Shanelly and Skylee, but little did Shanelly know that Anthony also planned to ask her to marry him. Event…

Celebrating being a wedding photographer for 10 years. Thank you so much for all of those who have let me in to capture the wonderful moments in your life. It's been a real honor to be a part of your journey while I get to call this my job. It's really awesome to get to do what I love for 10 years and still love it. I am so lucky! I was doing a calculation of how many hours I have spent taking, studying and obsessing about photos. If I have been doing it for 40 hours a week since 2010, I would have spent 20800 hours!

Today, I am lucky to be capturing love again--at a proposal in at Santa Monica beach. Even though the marquee sign that says "marry me" was giant, she didn't see because her friend had been distracting her "trying to run to the shore for a selfie before sunset". It was perfect. She didn't see it coming. Said yes with tears in her eyes!

♥💍Proposal story: He proposed to her at this summit overlooking Griffith park. Took me 45 minutes to hike up here but it's so worth it! He got down on one knee and she totally didn't see it coming. With tears streaming down her cheeks, she said yes!

👍🏻 Photography tip: To capture the details of the background (which was a reward for my hike💪🏼), I shot the scene by backing up further and shooting landscape, at f/7.1

• ♥️Shall I share more about myself again? I'm going to disclose 3 personal facts and I would love to read facts about YOU in the comments! 📷by my super talented friend Mike Arick Photography who made me look good! Thanks for the beautiful photos! •
•1. I wished that Chinese New Year was more widely celebrated in the US (or at least more widely recognised, like Rosh Hashanah). When I grew up in Hong Kong, it's a bigger deal than the Christmas Holiday with a full week off! But here it's business as usual and I'm still not used to it to this date. I'll be celebrating tonight with friends eating Chinese food at Hop Li though! Happy New Year if you celebrate it!

•2.I didn't know what my favorite color was until my husband pointed it out. He said "white, because you love snow." He knows me better than I know myself once in a while. White IS my favorite color.

•3. I just skied for a whole day for the first time since my teenage years on Wednesday! I was wiping out at the blue trails because I forgot what I was supposed to do, after switching to snowboarding and didn't exactly look back for too many years. It was so lost in the morning, but by noon I was feeling so much more comfortable with adjusting my center of gravity with slight sways with my hips, rather than doing heel toes heel toes. It was fun and I'll keep skiing on non-powder days. Powder days- back to snowboard of course!

🕺Photography tip: How do you create intimacy in photos? I had the bride and groom stand inside the building at a spot with even lighting, and asked them to express love to each other. I walked outside the building and looked at them through the window, observing. It's not a random shot that happened to be just like that, because I intentially looked for the perspective and placed them there, but the chemistry and moment were real! You can see the intimacy in the way they looked at each other, and when it's portrayed through the glass window with the string lights reflected around their faces, it feels like I'm not supposed to be there, and they were in their own coccoon.
•Fun fact: I don't use any UV filters to "protect my lenses" because I don't believe in cheap glass cheapening the image quality of expensive optics. But I willingly shoot behind windows (to create a different atmsophere and perspective). I contradict myself sometimes, and I'm not gonna apologize for it.

🎡Occasion: 🍾Escort card styling idea: I love es**rt card displays that doesn't get "messed up" by the wind! Seriously, I can't tell you how many weddings I've been to where the coordinators frantically pick up es**rt cards from the floor. Not only is this idea practical, it also adds more visual interest to the entrance of the venue by transforming a typical table display to a vertical piece of art. To achieve this look, you can hang ribbons draped on the open frame, then drape the greenery around each ribbon to make them look more organic if you like, and you can also decorate the frame with the same color scheme of the centerpiece florals. You can easily set this frame against a wall, or put the frame on footed floor mounts to make it stay outdoors. The final step is to clip the es**rt cards on clothespin onto the ribbons and you're all set! If you like more DIY wedding ideas, please let me know in the comments and I would be happy to share!

🍾Escort card styling idea:I love the watercolor calligraphy and bright ink on this es**rt card! Instead of table numbers, they have fruits and vegetable names for the tables--here is strawberry! It's so cute and refreshing hung up on this frame with ribbons and greenery--which I'll show in my next post!

🕺Photography tip: To show off the bride's feminine and delicate features, I angled her face just in the shade of the room a bit far away from the window, and with her face angled downwards, it showed off her cheekbones and beautiful shape of the eyes and nose perfectly. The simple birdcage veil added just a hint of depth to this shot without taking away the main focus of her beauty.
