All of my favorite portraits that I’ve taken were shot with no lights—some had one. Most had no assistant. Most were like 20 minutes. I don’t know how or when it happened that people assume a photoshoot has to be a huge, time-consuming, massive production. I often get a massive “set up time” built into my call sheet, which makes me laugh because what is there to set up, if you’ve seen my photos? My favorite pictures of “famous” people throughout history were the stripped down, natural ones, with some intimacy and timelessness. Humanity doesn’t care about visual trends, and neither do I
