We PACKED the Mark Taper auditorium yesterday at the Central Library for the Grand Finale of Projecting L.A. 2024. The round table discussion afterwards was extremely moving and meaningful as the photographers discussed the challenges of their work.

From left: Joshua Stern, Robert Yager, Alon Goldsmith, Karen Ballard, Allen Schaben, Ringo Chiu, Sarah Reingewirtz, Jill Connelly.

Along with founding and building a photography school in Los Angeles, Projecting L.A. is one of my biggest challenges and perhaps one of the most rewarding. It has been an honor to work with such talented photographers.

I would love to keep Projecting L.A. going, but we need major corporate sponsorship to do so. I do believe in miracles.

Thank you all for your support of Projecting L.A. for the past 2-1/2 years.

Hi Friends,

I am grateful that both photography and teaching found their way into my life, for I would not be complete or happy without them both. Photography has a allowed me to enter people's lives whom I would otherwise never meet, all around the world. Teaching has allowed me to share my knowledge, my passion, my excitement, my enthusiasm. Teaching doesn't keep me from doing my photography. It enhances it.

You'll find my classes in three different places in Los Angeles:
I. My own classes through THE L.A. PROJECT, which include:
Street Photograpy
Street Critique
The Documentary Project
The Crash Flash Class
(I have one class left in 2024; a one-day Street Photography workshop on Sat., Nov. 16)
For more information see: www.juliadean.com/classes

II. SANTA MONICA COLLEGE. I am currently teaching a Photo 2 class this semester (which is about how to shoot film and print in the traditional darkroom) at SMC and will be doing it again during the Spring Semester 2025 (on Wednesday evenings, from 5:00-9:00 pm).

III. THE LEICA STORE L.A.
My next five-day street photography class at the Leica store in West Hollywood will take place in March 3-7, 2025.

I am attaching a photo taken this week at a DTLA event on 7th street, taken during a "silent disco." (imagine that!)

I hope to see you soon.

Thank you for reading this.

Hi Friends,

I have a Crash Flash class coming up this Saturday from 10 am - 6 pm, held at my new super cool location at STUDIOUS, a co-working space in Chinatown. You will learn more than you think is possible about your flash in one day. Plus, I have written up handouts of each assignment with step-by-step directions that you will take home. (It's like a little "flash text book" written by me). First, you'll learn how to work with a flash on camera, followed by off-camera flash in TTL and manual modes. If you would like to sign up, write to me at [email protected] and I will tell you how to do so.

This photo was taken with color slide film and a little tad of fill flash in the 1990s during my first decade in L.A.!

Hi Friends,

We are so grateful to the Los Angeles Public Library for inviting us in to 13 different LAPL branches all over town to show PROJECTING L.A. 2024. The third library to take part is MEMORIAL LIBRARY at 2:00 pm this coming Saturday, Sept. 7th. Four of the project's photographers will be there to talk with the public afterwards in a wonderful round table discussion. They are: Ringo Chiu, Alon Goldsmith, David Ingraham, and Jamie Johnson.

The J. Paul Getty Trust provided us with the equipment necessary to screen the show at each library, plus they are gifting everyone who attends a $25 parking pass to either Getty location.

We would love to see you.
