Kay Stoner Coastal Photography

Kay Stoner Coastal Photography I'm a paddler and an explorer who loves being in and on the water. I also take pictures. I've been a big fan of coastal areas, my entire life. I pay attention.

Life is a wonder, and it's full of instants that quickly pass by, if we're not paying attention.

www.coastal.photos Growing up in Pennsylvania Dutch Country, "the Shore" in New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland was a destination I loved more than any other. I've lived and traveled on both coasts of the continental USA, exploring the west from southern Califo

rnia to Washington... and getting plenty sunburned while floating in (and on) the waters of the East Coast, from Maine to Florida. Whether I'm pulling on my 3/2 wetsuit for a dip in New England waters, or I'm hopping in my kayak to explore the inland bays of Delaware, I'm happiest when I am near the water. And it never ceases to amaze me, just how much beauty can be found in an instant - even in the most ordinary surroundings. The interplay of light and air and water... with waves rising and falling... the wind pushing insistently... the sun playing hide-and-seek with three different types of clouds... it all adds up to some amazing moments, and some gorgeous pictures. When it comes to my craft behind the camera, my role is to recognize those moments of beauty and wonder that spark joy. And if I do my job right in the moment, I can capture those brief flashes of beauty for myself and others to enjoy anytime we need to. Life is a wonder, and it's full of instants that quickly pass by, if we're not paying attention. So that I might share the joy I find with you.

Marsh Calm No 5

A narrow tidal channel, flanked by tall marsh grass, funnels the eye toward a lone marker at the horizon. Calm, shallow water carries gentle ripples that reflect a pale blue sky, producing delicate bands of light that lead inward. The grass forms a natural corridor, its textured edges both crisp and slightly blurred, framing the center with restrained symmetry.

Muted greens and cool blues dominate the palette, while the distant post provides a quiet focal point and a sense of scale. Composition relies on horizontal planes—sky, grass, water—and a central vanishing point, creating balance with a whisper of tension. The surface reflections and the subtle motion of the water suggest slow passage of time without theatrics.

The mood leans contemplative: stillness interrupted only by small, repeating patterns on the surface and by the slender silhouette at the lip of the horizon. Photographic clarity meets an almost painterly softness in the margins, so the scene feels both immediate and slightly removed.

An understated statement piece that brings calm focus to a study, hallway, or living room corner.

Here is a question worth sitting with: what do you actually see when you walk into your own home?

Not what is there, but what do you still notice? What draws your eye?

What have you stopped seeing because it has been there so long?

"Marsh Margin" and the online art gallery is here, if you need to switch things up.

There is a format that changes how a work reads on a wall, not just how it looks, but how it feels in a room.

Metal prints have a clarity and a presence that is different from anything else.

No frame is competing for attention. Just the work, direct. It is a format worth considering if you want something that holds up over time.
