For those of you considering joining us for Gingerbread Days and Gingerbread Ladies' Night Out in Lombard, Illinois, you can reserve your prepaid seat at mwdphotography.com - Details about the event are on the site and you will also have the opportunity to book a private photo session with an award-winning photographer, Maggie Blaszczyk. Maggie's work has been featured on the BBC and Larry King - a photo of hers actually went viral with over one million hits! Her technique when shooting Santa pictures with kids is remarkable - allowing time for them to converse and get to know one another, unlike a Mall Santa experience - where your kids stand in line until they're cranky, then you have to plop them into a stranger's lap (and he's wearing an even stranger red outfit in the middle of a shopping center!), where all the faces are pointed right at the camera and the kids are uncomfortable. Plus, Maggie's sets and props are unique; a Mall Santa photo has the exact same setting as everyone else's Santa photo - not the greatest thing for putting on a family Christmas card! Maggie engages the kids - suggests conversations they can have with Santa - and her Santa is warm and engaging with kids - so the photos you get are natural and just lovely. (Remember - Santa will be visiting the kids as they create their Gingerbread masterpieces beforehand, so he will no longer be a "stranger in a red suit" to them; he's a friend - and they forget they're in front of the camera!)
