I started creating again as a way to communicate the pain and struggles of living and working with an unquiet alcoholic mind—but also to reflect the beautiful life that was unfolding in the midst of walking through the pain, fear, and struggles. I’ve used my art to reach and connect with other addicts and alcoholics, both in and out of recovery, as well as with those struggling with mental health diagnoses. Through mixed media collages, pours, sculptures, and paintings, I’ve expressed rage, pain, fear, and fight—but also surrenders, triumphs, awakenings, and spiritual growth. I not only create to connect and communicate; but also create to escape and release. And I continue to do so in hopes of helping and reaching others along the way. To show others that there is always hope, help, and a way out—and that you are never alone in your struggles.
