Part two, because after telling you what I wouldn’t spend your money on for family photos… I had to tell you what I actually WOULD. 😂🤎

And no, I don’t think you need to spend a fortune preparing for your session.

The things I think are worth the money are the ones that make the experience easier, help you feel more like yourself, or make sure your photos actually get enjoyed after your gallery is delivered.

A photographer whose work you LOVE.
Help with styling if outfits stress you out.
An outfit you feel amazing in.
A really good lipstick. 💄
And PLEASE — print the photos. Preferably somewhere that’s going to reproduce them beautifully and make them last.

You don’t need every upgrade, every beauty appointment, or an entirely new wardrobe.

Spend where it actually makes a difference. 🤎

This is the magic of a full session. 🤎

Mini sessions are amazing for updated family photos, holiday cards, and getting a handful of beautiful images without committing to a longer session.

But every once in a while, especially while your kids are little, I really think it’s worth giving yourselves more time.

More time to play.
More time to wander.
More time for the shy ones to warm up and the wild ones to be wild.
More time for the little personalities that make your family your family to actually show up.

That’s what I love most about full sessions.

Yes, we’ll get the smiling-at-the-camera photos too — but we also get the belly laughs, the sibling chaos, the running, the snuggles, the tiny things you didn’t even realize you’d want to remember.

Minis capture what your family looks like right now.
Full sessions give us a little more room to capture what this season of your family feels like. 🤎

And with little kids changing as quickly as they do, that part is pretty special.

Soft and romantic can still feel completely like you. 🤎

For these two, that looked like a green dress in an open field, ultrasound photos reflected in a motorcycle mirror, plenty of laughing, and a second look surrounded by the prettiest golden light.

It wasn’t about recreating someone else’s maternity session. It was about blending the beautiful with the personal and documenting them exactly as they are in this chapter.

Turns out even the family photographer needed help dressing her own family. 😂🤎

For our family photos this year, I decided to try something I’d been curious about for a while and hired Megan Napier | Family Photo Stylist to style all SEVEN of us.

And I genuinely loved the process.

She started with a questionnaire, let me choose my outfit first, then built everyone else around it. And when I wasn’t sure about something or wanted a different option? I asked — and she was SO quick to respond, swap pieces out, and give me more direction until everything felt like us.

The part I appreciated most was that it never felt like someone else was deciding what my family should look like. It was collaborative. I still had a say in everything — I just didn’t have to somehow make seven individual outfits work together on my own. 🙃

And for around $60 for our whole crew? I was honestly shocked by how affordable it was.

Huge shoutout to Megan Napier | Family Photo Stylist for making one of the most stressful parts of family photos feel ridiculously easy. 🤎

a little pinch-me moment for Ten Seventeen. 🤎

Rutter + Shae’s gorgeous May wedding at King Mansion was just featured by Bespoke Bride, and seeing this day — and my work — shared in such a beautiful way feels incredibly special.

This wedding was full of everything I love to photograph: romantic portraits, thoughtful details, and all of those little in-between moments that make a day feel completely their own.

So grateful to Rutter + Shae for trusting me with it, and to Bespoke Bride for seeing something special in their story too. ✨

summer is starting to feel like it’s slipping through our fingers a little bit. 🤎

the evenings are getting softer, the air feels different, and somehow fall already feels right around the corner.

I’m not quite ready to let go of golden fields, bare feet, and slow summer nights just yet though.
