“From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me and holy is his Name.” Luke 1:48-49
Today is the Solemnity of the Assumption! It’s the day we celebrate Mary being taken body and soul into Heaven at the end of her life.
If you have ever been to a Catholic wedding, you might have seen a beautiful moment where the bride and groom present flowers to a statue of Mary.
Here is what this unique wedding tradition actually means:
💐A family prayer: The newlyweds pause to ask Mary to pray for their new marriage and future family.
💐Honoring our mother: Catholics do not worship Mary. We honor her as a spiritual mother, just as Jesus did.
💐Glorifying God: By celebrating the great things God did through Mary, the couple ultimately points all praise back to the Almighty.
It is a quiet, powerful moment of surrender and gratitude at the start of a lifelong journey together. 🤍
